Something went wrong I think - tastes off but no off flavours if you see what I mean. It’s certainly no summer

Cask Conditioned Handpump Southampton Arms London. A chestnut coloured beer with a thin whitish head and lacing. Sweet berries in the nose with hedgerow fruity hops. Quite sweet notes in the mouth (I’m guessing there’s rye?) with bready malts and a bitter finish. A bit chewy. The alcohol strength comes through. An interesting beer.
3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 shoulderbroken (587) - Tokyo, JAPAN - SEP 24, 2011
Cask at Southampton Arms. Brown red with small thin beige head. Medium bodied with very low carbonation. Aroma is a bit spicy, bit boozy fruit and a bit grainy. Taste is quite malty, with caramel undertones, and a long bitter finish. Feels more alcoholic than the % suggests. Not very subtle, but pretty nice.

Cask at the Magpie. Deep brown with a coarse white head, pineapple and hops on nose, rich full body with more pineapple notes plus demera sugar and a hint of burnt caramel, all countered by a hugely drying bitter hop bite. Astringent burnt bitterness lasts long into the aftertaste. Great stuff that’s much more than the sum of its parts.
