3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Fin (5749) - Merton, Oxfordshire, England, - MAY 4, 2008
Cask at Reading Beer Festival 02-05-08 following a two hour queue to get in grrrr! Pours black with beige bubbly med’ head. Stunning fresh hop aroma, loads of hoppy oilliness. Taste is hoppy and also there is a distinct but subtle smokiness to this, quite bitter, really nice citrussy pithiness to this. There is a nice roastiness to this nut its that citrus tang and lovely juiciness that make this unlike any other stout that I’ve encountered. Very good.

On cask at The Stagg’s Beer Festival, 2011. Pours a dark brown colour with a fair tan head. Aroma of roasty malt and hops. Similar flavours. Mild carbonation and the mouth-feel is a little oily. Very nice!

Cask, 4.7% at the brewpub. Roasted aroma, a bit of iron as if from raw beef. Black colour. Stable light brown head. Coffee flavour - clean and cold. Without any unpleasant bitterness. Round coffee flavour, hint of cream. Has a little bit of grassy, biting hop in the finish.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 Leighton (4100) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - MAR 14, 2011
Cask at Euston Tap. Dark brown pour with a dense, creamy beige head. Lots of citrusy hops on the nose with some ashy, roasty malts. Medium sweet, some juicy, resinous bitterness, light burnt wood, mild tobacco. Medium bodied with good, on-the-money average carbonation. A bit of sticky hops to finish, piney, good bit of roast and charred wood. Fantastic.

(cask @ the Magpie & Crown, Brentford) Had this for breakfast on Saturday morning after a 12 mile run: Pretty good for a low boozed stout. A glass of sinister blackness has a roasty malt , chocolaty and creamy vibe. Lotta roasted chocolate bitterness is imprintiing on my palate ;
Pretty plesant @ 11.25 .am in the morning.

UPDATED: FEB 4, 2011 Maybe a bit lacking in condition but still good, loads of cocoa on nose, then dry roast malt with cocoa and grassy hop notes, plus maybe a hint of ginger and liquorice. Really bitter-roast finish and a lingering dry aftertaste.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 tkrjukoff (2687) - SWEDEN - MAR 16, 2010
Nice dark color with good head. Good aroma of roasted malt, chocolate and caramel. A bit too "watery" for me for a stout with little carbonation. Flavor is like aroma and the aftertaste lsats quite a while which is nice.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 downender (4389) - Bristol, Gloucestershire, ENGLAND - FEB 28, 2010
UPDATED: MAR 15, 2011 Cask-conditioned at the Portcullis, Clifton, Bristol 28/02/10. Near black with a slight, off-white head. Aroma of dark chocolate, leafy hops and roasted malts. Easy drinking, with plenty more chocolate, black coffee and a hoppy, dry finish. Excellent [3.7]. Rerate 15/03/11 at the Three Tuns, Bristol. Thinner on this occasion with the hops perhaps too prominent. [3.3]
