3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 foxo82 (478) - Tamworth (via Leicester), Staffordshire, - APR 15, 2012Bottle from Stirchley Wines & Spirits, Pershore Road, Birmingham. Pours a cloudy tawny (yes, really) brown with some sediment. Nice foamy head and a little visible carbonation. Smells reminiscent of a Belgian wheat beer with bananas, apple and yeast. It tastes nothing like it smells - it starts as a bitter fizz and just keeps growing into a long, bitter finish, giving malts, hops and dark chocolate which all compliment the sweet, fruity aroma so well. It’s been a while since I had a beer that’s as well balanced as this. It lacks a little in mouthfeel but overall it’s a very good beer.

I really like that Marble make more traditional style of bitters and this is great - a nice balance of the malt and hops.

500ml bottle (conditioned) from Bacchanalia, Mill Road, Cambridge. Drunk today. Hazy, dark amber. Pours a good, off-white head, which persists well as a good covering - fairly small bubbles. Light carb. Aroma - Nice, citrussy, spicy hops and fruity, caramel malt. Taste - Strongly caramel malt (maybe some darker, roastier malts too?) and some fruit, then turning fairly bitter, with some herbiness. Fairly bitter finish, with quite a lot of fresh, citrussy hops. Slight bitter aftertaste. Nice, rounded body, good mouthfeel, with slight oilyness. Refreshing too. Nice - Tasty hops. A bit more bitter and citrussy than i was expecting for a strong, dark bitter; i was expecting this to be a malty one, but it was a pleasant, hoppy surprise.

Bottle at 57 Thomas Street. Dark brownish coloured ale with a hint of redness. Initially seems to be heavy, malty beer with fruit, caramel and a dose of alcohol, but then the hops kick in and you get a nice bitter smack on the finish. Great beer for a miserable night in Manchester!
