Cask at the Grove, Huddersfield. From cask at the brewpub. Pretty much black looks with a minimal beige head. Nose had roast malts and some fresh slightly peppery hop. Silky smooth mouthfeel. Taste department was bang on the money, with the right amount of roast mingled with some nice chocolate, fruit and slightly smoky notes. Dried out tidily towards the finish. A really good porter.

A Mes rate. Cask at the Marble Arch. Almost opaque black brown with a thin tan head. Aroma is glorious inky blackness with some superb dry bitter chocolate. Flavour is similar with just the right level of everything and a faint faint lick of sourness, just like a traditional porter should be. Chocolate and coffee finish with some late developing bitterness. Bloody excellent all round.
