Cask at the Magpie. Black-brown with coarse beige head, aromes of black treacle, peach toffee, roasty and dry with treacle toffee and appley malt, then a dry burnt bitter finish with hints of dark cocoa. Gorgeous.

Cask at The Marble Arch in Manchester. Pretty much black with a small tan head. Aroma is quite mellow, some chocolate. Mellow sourness, coffee chocolate and mellow bitterness. Nice finish. Very drinkable for a porter. Gone in minutes.

Cask at the Grove, Huddersfield. From cask at the brewpub. Pretty much black looks with a minimal beige head. Nose had roast malts and some fresh slightly peppery hop. Silky smooth mouthfeel. Taste department was bang on the money, with the right amount of roast mingled with some nice chocolate, fruit and slightly smoky notes. Dried out tidily towards the finish. A really good porter.

A Mes rate. Cask at the Marble Arch.
Almost opaque black brown with a thin tan head. Aroma is glorious inky blackness with some superb dry bitter chocolate. Flavour is similar with just the right level of everything and a faint faint lick of sourness, just like a traditional porter should be. Chocolate and coffee finish with some late developing bitterness. Bloody excellent all round.

Cask gravity at Pigs Ear 2008. Black, ruby edges, thin tan head. Rather a lovely beer, good choc, good depth of flavour, excellent mouthfeel. Some spice on aroma. Bit oily, but good espresso coffee bitter choc. Really bitter. Good beer. Grainy
