Oakes (10202) - Gibsons, British Columbia, CANADA - DEC 10, 2002
Hazy deep gold, soft but insistent-looking carbonation, thin bumpy head. Aroma: alcohol, dried peaches, white pepper, slightly musty. Carbonation is kind of harsh on first sip, but later in the glass settles into a more rational level. Sweet body moderated by firm, but by no means obtrusive, alcoholic dryness. Pepper, mushrooms, almost Wonder Bready malts at the beginning give way to a thin line of hops separating the sweeter, fruitier (peach, bramley apple) finish. Balanced, muscular without bodyslamming you. Moortgat’s pale beers are always nicely done, it’s a shame about the 8.

daboskabouter (1470) - Fergus, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 2, 2002
Sparkling, light hazed golden color. Big, rocky white head. Aroma is yeast with a touch of banana and alcohol. Body is spritzy and sweet, with a prevalent alcohol bite. Yeast, a and a sweet fruitiness make up the majority of the body with a subtle organic bitter hoppiness making an appearance in the finish. Not a bad triple, but not a standout of the style.

hard to believe a beer this strong could be so boring. no real character of its own - not as good as the maredsous cheese but that´s something to be discussed at a different website

Malty aroma, barely apparent EtOH. Very warming on the back of the throat, but other than that the alcohol is quite tamed. Well hopped yet sweet. Way too carbonated.

Way overcarbonated! The first obstacle was getting through the foam and into the beer. Spicy clover flavor, lighter than expected. Definitely a sweet aftertaste.

I agree with austinpowers that the abv, didn’t seem as strong as indicated. However I thought the flavor was pretty enjoyable. It was spicey, subtle, and smooth with a nice mix of fruit notes.

For 10% abv, this actually tastes more like 8%. Excessively carbonated. Strong floral and spice notes that defy explanation. I loved the Maredsous 8 but can’t appreciate the Maredsous 10 nearly as much.

Strong fruity alcoholic aroma, nice white head and a deep golden pour. Malty sweet finish and the carbonation is just about perfect for a belgian. Lovely beer.

UPDATED: JAN 6, 2003 Surprisingly, other than the appealing cloudy yellow appearance, my first impression was of the carbonation. This particular bottle was way overcarbonated, as if the brewery accidentally dumped some extra yeast in the bottle. However, after the initial carbonation shock subsided I began to notice the sweet swell of fruity malt that is distinctly Belgian. There is a sweet side to this beer that really settles nice on the palate while the cloves add interest to the overall flavor. My rating increased dramatically as the bottle warmed so I suggest to anyone giving this a poor rating to give it a chance closer to room temp. Cheers.

Medium gold color, very large head. Full bodied Belgian Triple. Very malty, somewhat sweet. Some hop spiciness. Full bodied, nice flavor. Some candy-sugar sweetness evident. Re-fermented in bottle. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet. No alcohol bite, despite a 10% alcohol by volume
