awaisanen (1161), Irvine, California, USA Dec 18, 2007 From a 330mL Bottle. Somewhat hazy, golden honey colored pour with an enormous layer of fine bubbled, creamy ivory. Aromas of pear brandy and freshly baked challah bread greet the nostrils immediately. Doughy, yeasty, and a bit of a sugary glaze. Fresh violet petals and a creamy banana. Medium bodied, sizzling carbonation that creates an effervescent texture that lifts some of the sweetness off the palate. Doughy, bready malt flavors up front, lightly spiced with some milky cardamom. Some herbal hop character comes through mid-palate, bringing out a clean, drying bitterness. Finishes fairly dry, but leaves a stinging alcohol warmth behind, tickling the palate. Overall this beer demonstrates a nice balance between light malt flavors, hop bitterness, and yeasty spice, but the finish is a bit too hot.
scottw86 (117), New York, USA Oct 11, 2008 Poured a hazy orange/brown with a stable foamy off-white head. Aroma was not too strong, but mainly of fruit and some Carmel. Flavor was pretty unremarkable. Some fruity notes with caramel and a hint of yeast. Not as smooth or as much yeast flavor as other Belgians. The alcohol is pretty well hidden however, so it is very drinkable. Overall pretty good, but there are more flavorful tripels out there. Straling (32), Amstenrade, Netherlands Oct 9, 2008 Bottle 33cl.
Pours an clear orange colour, very well carbonated, with a good size head, didn’t have the proper glass, but the same type so I imagine it won’t make much of a difference.
Can definetly recognize caramel in the scent, but also vaguely some fruits are in the mix, though very hard to detect.
Very strong flavour, with a bit too much alcohol to it. Nonetheless has a good flavour with yet again a dominance of caramel.
Pretty good abbey tripel, but could do with less alcohol flavour to it. DrDavid (354), Johnson, Vermont, USA Oct 5, 2008 (Bottle). Medium-sweet fruit aroma. Clear light copper color, huge off-white foamy head. Flavor is delicious fruits and herbs, medium carbonation, very light finish. This is a powerful beer, but with the alcohol well disguised; caution required! Guinnessman (80), VACAVILLE, California, USA Oct 5, 2008 750 ml bottle. Dark color with strong caramel smell. Heavy malt flavor that finishes smooth. Went great with a slice of pesto brie cheese. afireinside96 (498), Mountville, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 5, 2008 From a bottle at the KSBF ’08. Hazy dark gold with a small head. Candy dominates but there is a nice maltiness and some light spice as well. Very good.
