2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Blond abbey beer with thick, cream white, dense, moussy, sticky head and pure golden blond colour with somewhat greenish hue, almost clear but cloudy and a darker peach blond after adding deposit. Despite the bottle being brown, the aroma is still dominated by a lightstruck effect (wet dog or cat pee, you know the odour I’m talking aboutà; otherwise rather weak, revealing impressions of orange peel, peach, grass, crabapple, wet hay, some pale malts and some white candi sugar. Taste rather neutral at first, minerals, sharpish carbo, dried apricot and green apple, vague metallic taste, light sweetish pale maltiness, mellow and more malt sweet in the end supported by some grassy hop bitterishness. For a blond abbey beer - a style often interpreted as "top fermented pale lager" by too many brewers, this is not that bad, at least not as soulless and chemical as its Leffe or Grimbergen counterparts, but it remains uninteresting and I hate lightstruck beer aromas with a passion. Before it was restyled, it was a bit heavier (6.8% ABV), a bit darker and a bit sweeter - and perhaps a bit better.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle at St. Arnold’s Mussel Bar in Dupont, DC. Poured a hazy orange color with a medium off-white head. Aroma was sweet malts, some straw, biscuit. Flavor was bready, some yeast notes. Flavorful, easy to drink. Enjoyable. This is another one of those beers I scrolled past numerous times because I thought I had had it back in 2006 or 2007 - or maybe I did and I just didn’t remember to add a rating for it here (the shock and horror!).

A blonde tasteful Beer that is quite easily drunk but with lots of flavour. A good Beer if you want something light but flavoursome.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
(One year since purchase, BB date: 04/2016)
Medium amber colour.
Nose: Sweet, with butter, smoke and corn on the cob. Then comes a more fruity, grassy hoppiness.
Taste & palate: The initial attack is semi sweet, but in the middle it appears drier. Medium body. Quite lively carbonation, with lots of small bubbles, making the beer quite fizzy/foamy. The taste itself is less interesting and also less yielding than the nose leeds one to expect. Some bitterness (hops) in the finish. Interesting over fermented bear but not quite balanced and a little too high alcohol (6%) compared to the (lack of) depth / richness of its taste.

Een goed blond biertje met heel wat smaak aan, zoals het hoort. De beste Maredsous voor mij

Hazy golden yellow. Head that fades. Aroma sour and yeast and citrus. Good fizzy carb. Citrusy and quite light for a belgian. Great tasting blonde.
