3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
From bottle at Bar Music Hall, Shoreditch. Clear amber with a medium head. Spicy and somewhat fruity character, good dryness towards the finish. An OK blond that needs that little extra to shine.

Pours clear copper colour with a small head. Taste has some bready malts with hops giving flowery and citrusy notes. Also notes of yeast and spices. Light and crisp mouthfeel. Nice, well-drinkable ale.

I had a bottle of this and two other Maredsous given as a gift with the goblet. I’d never tried it before, and I found it quite pleasant. A classic Belgian blond, it doesn’t stand out in a good way or a bad way as Belgian beers go. I’d compare it to a stronger-flavored Hoegaarden, rather yeasty and bready in flavor without the citrus note. You might find a similarity to Duvel, or in America, to Victory’s Whirlwind Witbier, but of those three I’d say I like Duvel the best. I’m more interested to try the 8 and the 10 from Maredsous.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draft served in Maredsous goblet. Body poured hazy copper, slightly darker top to bottom, with a ring of white head. Nose was spicy yeast, hay, slight fruity esters. Flavor is smooth wheaty, light spiciness, lightly citric. Finished with good carbonation and phenols on the tip of the tongue. The palate was rather smooth and that was probably the only surprise. Not bad but not great either.

Sampled on draft, served in a Maredsous goblet. Amber medium bodied Belgian Ale yeasty, citrus, spice flavors. On the lighter side, but still retains its Belgian qualities.

Bottle (330ml). Pours a slightly hazy golden-orange with a large diminishing foamy off-white head. Nice aroma is yeasty, sweet and fruity along with some spices. Flavour’s the same, yeasty, fruity, slightly spicy and has a light bitter finish. Medium bodied. A very good beer, it’s well made and quite enjoyable to drink.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours a clear coppor colour with a normal size head an carbonation.
Aroma gives away some fruits, also some spices and some hops there too.
Taste is also fruity and hoppy, very sweet aftertaste and a little bit of smokeyness in the finish.
