341ml bottle - shared with blankboy, garthicus and gregclow, via trade with JulienHuxley. Hazy mahogany with a smallish frothy/creamy greenish tan head (3+). Aroma of paint, wildflowers, but mostly toffee. Decent - not much alcohol, mocha toffee, again that weird hint of oil-based paint, and back palate herbal bitterness to balance it all some, nice caramel - "like slightly herbal Kraft caramels." Slick, sticky mouthfeel, average body, not much carbonation, fairly quick-finishing, with a somewhat pungent herbal/grassy aftertaste .... would have been better fresh, obviously, but not unpleasant.

In short: Lots of caramel and some dark grapes juice. That’s it. Bland below average scotch ale.
How: Bottle 341ml. Consumed when about 5 months old
The look: Pours a brown-ruby body with no head 30 seconds later
In long: Nose of caramel and dark grapes. Taste is just the same. Caramel and more caramel, dark grapes juice, maybe a little prune. Some burnt brown sugar and a little maple taffy. Under-carbonated. Hops are discreet to say the least. That’s about it. This is a very boring beer. Label says this is a beer by “Brasseurs Illimités”. I think Brasseurs Illimités is to brewers what Alan Smithee is for movie directors.

Bottle [341ml] shared with HogTownHarry, GregClow & garthicus -- c/o HogTownHarry. Pours a murky amber-brown with a spare bubbly off-white head. Odd aroma of burnt maple syrup and toffee. Flavour of maple syrup, toffee, dark fruit and grapes. Average bodied. Not very good.

(Rating #2364)

Looks like liquid toffee with minimal head. Smells like peat-toffee if they made it. Flavour is aroma-advertised peat-toffee-caramel but unfortunately with a sour edge. Sour fruit, molasses and peat in the finish. I think I would really like it without the sourness.

Bottled, thanks Timo A! Hazy dark mahagony color. The aromas of toffee, caramel, berries and warming alcohol. Sweetish toffeish, caramelly and nutty flavor with raisiny and vinous finish. Warming palate. Nice vinous dark fruit character.

Boutip (3294) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - JUL 9, 2009
Bottle: Poured a cloudy murky amber color ale with a small foamy head with minimal retention and no lacing. Aroma of toffee and caramel with light notes of alcohol at the end. Taste is a mix between some toffee and deep caramel malt notes with some light residual sugar. Body is full with limited filtration and low carbonation with some alcohol showing. Interesting though I like my scotch ale with more peats malt; noticeable alcohol is also a bit too apparent for my taste.
