3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 jacobwennbom (350) - Uppsala, SWEDEN - OCT 27, 2007
Roasted malt and quite a lot bitterness. That is how I would describe this porter from Mariestads. Furthermore it felt much thinner than I would have wanted it to feel (even though i could have guessed it to be so when I poured it into my glass). Good but not great I suppose is my final statement.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 SamGamgee (2452) - down the whirlpool, California, USA - OCT 18, 2007
33cl bottle from systenbolaget. Clear dark brown with a good sized steady tan head. Roasty, bitter aroma. The flavor is interresting. Its slightly thin for a porter, but hints of malty sweetness pop in and out, always followed by a roasted bitterness. More hop flavor than I would have guessed actually. the bitterness in the finish isn’t the most pleasant, but it is assertive. The body is also too thin, but the carbonation is good. I wasnt expecting much from my experience with other mariestads beers, but they’ve managed to put together a descent, drinkable beer, even if its not the best porter.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 screwball (1098) - Motala, SWEDEN - OCT 17, 2007
Bottle. Black. Has a brown thin head that lasts all the way. Aroma and taste has liquorice, burnt malt and coffee. there is also a hint of grass. Way to much carbon dioxide. Aftertaste is dry, salty and harsh.

Malty, raisin and chocolate scent, quite subtle. Dry roasted taste with metallic tones. Dry coffee and roasted aftertaste. Taste has a lot more character than the scent had. 2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20 Moz (613) - Gothenburg, SWEDEN - OCT 11, 2007
Bottle. Almost black colour with some red glimpses and a tan hed on top. Strange aroma, candy & vegetables. Sweetish flavour, watery. I’m "Against the grain" yes, but I really didn’t like this one.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 rlgk (7538) - Skövde, SWEDEN - OCT 11, 2007
Bottle. Amber color, offwhite head. Sweet roated aroma with some milk. Chocolate flavor, some bitterness, cocoa notea but too thin to be considered a good porter. Still its better than other Mariestad beers.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Ingevara (713) - SWEDEN - OCT 10, 2007
Stiff head. Redish brown, fresh smell. No smoke, very little sugar,b ut lots of hops and quite aromatic. This beer taste a lot more than an average english bitter (which I like) than a traditional porter. Difficult to rate it. A good tasty beer - a bad porter.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 Furseth (1876) - Kungälv, SWEDEN - OCT 7, 2007
Bottle: Clear dark red colour, creamy head. Aroma of metalic, caramel, dark chocolate, alc roasted malty and som hopy end.
Flavor is almost the same, but here was also a bit of coffee too, some metalic mouth feeling was there to. That was not good. But this porter was ok enyway. Medium body, and a thin to medium finish. Reminds me of a light version of Carnegie Porter who has a lower alc level(5,5%). This was a ok beer from this brewery!
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 rickgordon (3816) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - OCT 5, 2007
Bottled.
Brown colour, with bubbly, somewhat steady head. Caramel is very significant in aroma, there are also suggestions of chocolate. Aroma is also slightly raw and undeveloped. Caramel and cocoa most prominent in mouthfeel, where a lurking chocolatey bitterness sneaks in. After is coffee with caramel still dominating. The bitterness is coming pretty slowly, along with a somewhat milky finish in mouthfeel. Once swallowed this beer is pretty dry and light harsh. Not a bad beer from this brewery. This ought to improve lots in a year or two.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 omhper (17556) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - OCT 2, 2007
Bottled. Clear nut brown, thick firm had. Light cocoa aroma. Medium sweet with clean mouthfeel and edium body. Flavourwise cocoa is completely dominant. Underneath lies notes of coffee, dried fruits and cookie malt. salty finish with some cocoa bitterness.
There are some syrupy notes that can be compared with Carnegie Porter, much I guess it is designed to rival. This beer is much more elegant to start with, but I doubtit will age as well. All in all it’s a well made porter finding a niche of it’s own, and a remarkably darng beer to come out from Sweden’s perhaps most conservative macro brewer.
