3.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Had this at the MBC Beer Dinner where they tapped the keg and they paired it with a bunch of Bourbon-flavored food. The brew itself felt like it needed about 6 more months of aging. It had a lot of Bourbon and oak, lots of malty butterscotchy characteristics, but there was also this weird effervescent vinegar-y aftertaste as well that killed all the good. A little thick on the mouthfeel (the first itme we had it, the second time from a different batch was thin), and hints of carbonation which was strange. I was looking for something a little smoother. Ah well, they’re trying some new things lately and I think they’re headed in the right direction once they work out the kinks.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Had this at the dinner. Something was wrong with it. It was either casked in a wine barrell or it was infected or it just needed to age a long time. It was flat. Idk, i loved the dinner and i like their normal beers, but they do not have this barrell aging thing down correctly.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Potential, this beer has it just not quite there yet. Poured flat and lifeless from the tap into a wide mouth glass. Faint signs of carbonation were few and far between, no head, no lacing. Color was a nice light chestnut. Aroma came out considerably once the beer warmed up. Heavy whiskey that gives way to a sweet malt content. Mild body, a touch thin for a hearty Scotch Ale. The sippin’ whiskey effect helped out the body issue and in the end this was nice to relax and sip on. Flavor is upfront bourbon that shows you to the roasted, organic, sweet malts hanging out in the back room. Very similar to Kentucky’s Bourbon Barrel Ale, in which the effect from the barrel really jumps in the driver’s seat and the actual ale is riding shotgun.
