shigadeyo (1361), Southwest Ohio Area, Ohio, USA Aug 14, 2007 7/21/2007: Marietta Coffee Stout is the color of chocolate/coffee brown color and has no head or crown. The aroma is mocha (more toward the coffee side). The flavor is mostly coffee with some threads of roasted malt and chocolate running throughout. This is a well-blended coffee stout. Its only downfall is the lack of body as it is quite thin on the palate.
Draught sample at Boogie on the Bricks in Athens, Ohio during the Ohio Brew Week 2007. Rating #7 for this beer...
OhioDad (2492), Hilliard, Ohio, USA Jul 22, 2007 pours dark brown with a short tan head. Aromas of chocolate, and lots of coffee. Flavor is mostly coffee but there is a touch of chocolate there too and some roast. Soft mouthfeel but a little watery on the palate. Other than that pretty solid stuff edden (901), cow- lumbus, Ohio, USA May 14, 2007 4/28/07: MRAF ’07 – Cask. Black bodied. Aroma of chocolate covered espresso beans. Flavor of leaded black coffee. Finish was coffee and choc-o-lot. Dogbrick (2209), Columbus, Ohio, USA May 1, 2007 Cask version at Barley’s 5th Annual Mini RAF (04/28/07): Maybe suffered by comparison at this event to East End’s Black Strap Stout and moreso to Bell’s Expedition (we won’t mention Barley’s ill-conceived barrel-aged St. Joan’s Revenge). Pours almost black with a thin dark beige head that dissapears quickly. Minimal lacing. Coffee and malt aroma. Medium-bodied and smooth with tart fruit and coffee flavors, along with some sweet malt. The finish is moderately bitter coffee and falls off pretty quickly, leaving a fruity aftertaste. The beer has potential, however it lacks in richness and depth. Could be better. BeerVirgin72 (568), C-Bus, Ohio, USA Apr 28, 2007 Had at Barley’s Mini Real Ale Fest 2007! Slightly better then the IPA, but again, very light and watered down flavored. Very slight flavor of coffee, but not overpowering and nothing that jumps at you. Very disappointed in both beers today from this brewer...
