LilKem (1169), Marietta, Ohio, USA Jul 5, 2008 This was a pleasing scotch. Aromas of smoke, butterscotch, whiskey, and chocolate and carmel malts. Had a good head on its shoulders and nice, if not cloudy appearance. Reminded me a lot of Vino’s scotch ale. Flavors followed aroma adding a hint of funk to it as well. Dogbrick (2348), Columbus, Ohio, USA Oct 18, 2007 On draught at the brewpub. This beer pours a murky reddish-amber color with a thin off-white head that has no staying power. Spotty lacing. The aroma is smoked malt, fruit and sherry. Medium-bodied with toasted malt, fruit (red grapes) and liqueur. Alcohol is evident all the while as well. The finish is smokey and earthy malt, leaving behind a slight alcohol and hops burn. Overall this is a pretty good Scotch Ale, it is just a little uneven at times. ogglethorp (804), Ohio, USA Aug 25, 2007 On tap. Pours a dark brown color with a soapy beige colored head. Aroma is sweet malts, hint of smoke. Flavor is sweet malts, hint of smoke, perhaps some dried fruits. Palate is medium bodied, medium carbonation, finishes on the sweet side. Pretty decent. shigadeyo (1500), Southwest Ohio Area, Alabama, USA Aug 14, 2007 7/20/2007: Marietta Scotch Ale is a murky, dark amber color. The aroma is malty and a bit on the sweet side. The flavor is lightly smoky, dry, malty with a little fruitiness, and some peat. I’m not sure what the alcohol is on this one, but it isn’t evident in the flavor. This beer has a medium body, but slightly thin/watery on the palate for my tastes. Not bad overall, but it seemed to be needing more malt and depth.
