Draft @ 13th Bistro Double IPA Festival, Hayward, CA. Pours a clear amber color with a small off-white head. has a fruity malty grapefruit hoppy bitter aroma with hints of caramel. Fruity malty hoppy bitter piney grapefruit flavor with hints of caramel. Has a fruity malty hoppy bitter piney grapefruit finish.

On tap at the brewery. Aroma is much more hop forward, it has warmed a bit. Flavor is very bitter. Nice head and lacing. This is good, but not as good as white knuckle, more alcoholic taste comes through.

Sampled @ AZ Strong Beer Fest. Man was I excited to try this...White Knuckle’s older brother!!! Sorely disappointed!!! 24 karat/copper pour with a 1/4 inch dense eggshell head. Aroma is caramel, toffee, honey, and subtle citrus. Flavor is extremely sweet and cloying. Not sure if this was old or if this is what the brewer intended. Thick and syrupy. Bleh.

On tap in sample size at the 2011 Bistro DIPA Fest. Pours a deep clear amber color with a lasting, sticky tan head. Aroma is crystal and caramel malts with some grapefruit and other citrus. Flavor is caramel and candied citrus. Bitterness is present but lacking in intensity, and the body is rather syrupy. Doesn’t live up to its younger brother White Knuckle.

Bistro DIPA fest 2011. Pours a deep copper thinning white head. Aroma is toast, biscuit, some sharp caramel slight cheese, then grassy somewhat off-fresh hops, slight citrus, moldy pine sap, and sharp caramel malt. Flavor is tea-like, slight astringent mix of hops and malts, grass, herbs, and some citrus. Meh.

On tap at Bistro DIPA Fest poured a clear amber with a lasting amber head. Aromas of biscuit, tangerine, pink grapefruit, light pine and l;ight tropical fruit. Palate was medium bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of biscuit, grapefruit, tangerine and light pine with a smooth dry lingering moderatly bitter finish.

Draft at kern River Brewing. Nose is grapefruit, floral, and a bit of piney hops mixed with some lightly sweet caramel malt. Hazy orange with a medium beige head. Flavor is moderately sweet mixed with a lower bitterness and notes of caramel and pine. Finishes slightly sweet caramel and a slight bitterness. Different DIPA.
