Incredible aroma of piney, resiny hops and sweet malt. Flavor is caramel malt with grapefruit, orange, and pine on the hoppy finish. Long, bitter finish. Full, oily palate, maybe even a little too oily for my tastes. Actually better as it warms up - or maybe just better as you get drunker. I couldn’t tell which it was. The aroma had some sweet malt buried by hop scents of tangerine, orange blossoms, citus zest, cat box, and a pine needle or two. There was more sweet malt in the flavor, but the hoppy tastes and bitterness tipped the scale in their favor. Nice. Ughsmash (4105), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 28, 2009 Bottled at DLD. Poured slightly hazy medium orange with a creamy, well-retained cap of beige head. The aroma picked up floral, pine, and citrusy (orange and grapefruit) hoppage over soft pale malts.. dark-ish overall impression for a IIPA, but very well-balanced. The flavor found toasty pale malt at the core with heavy grapefruit, pine, and catty bitterness around.. quite warm on the back with a thicker feel. The bitterness was a touch too aggressive at times on the palate, but otherwise the balance was excellent.. I’d love to drink more! hellbilly (1577), scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA

pours a brilliant copper color with a small off white cap and some drippy lacing.
smells a lot like really nice honey... citrus blossoms, caramel, tangerines, earthy spices... it somehow smells rich and deep.
it is not really sweet on the palate but it is heavy on the maltiness... caramel, sweet grapefruit, orange and flowers with a mildly bitter finish which lingers. it is very well balanced (which i do not like in hoppy beer!) yet admittedly slightly past it’s prime.
medium body is drinkably smooth and creamy while bitter and dry... 7/3/6/4/15/3.5 Ibrew2or3 (2848), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Apr 2, 2009 Pours deep gold with copper core and thin white head. The aroma has a nice thick sweet malt backbone that is noticed first before robust notes of tangelo, orange peel and some grapefruit enter the picture and take over. Yummy smell. The taste is thick and full of goodness. I get plenty of citrus grapefruit hop bitterness moving into sweeter late boil addition tangelo hops. I then get a solid base of sweet malts and a sense of caramel. Very nice balance without pushing the boundary for this boundary pushing style. gunhaver (1046), Tampa, Florida, USA

Huge tropical nose, big spicy hops, caramel and some dry molasses. Bitter, dry grain, sweet malt, caramel. Soft full-bodied and balanced. BeerBunker (624), Burbank, Illinois, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 29, 2009 Another bomber thanks to riversideAK. Pours amber with a frothy white head. Lots of carbonation. Aroma is of hops, citrus, caramel, soap, and pine. Taste is of hops and citrus with lots of pine and biscuity malt. Lots of lingering caramel. Nice big alcohol burn lingers long after each sip. Mouthfeel is very sticky and oily. A tad too oily for my liking, but it is a very good tasting beer that drinks easily. markwise (1216), 15 Minutes from Kuhnhenn in, Florida, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 29, 2009 Thanks IBrew2or3 for the share. Pours an orange-amber with an off-white head. Nose is apricot, tart citrus, and sugary light fruit. Flavor is sugary apricot, light fruit, malt, caramel, and some noticeable pine and citrus hops. After all, this is a IIPA. A gentle bitterness pervades this beer. It moves through the mouth and finishes gently, not abrasively like other IIPAs. Enjoyable.
