"White Knuckle Ale" is a Double India Pale Ale. That’s right, twice the malt and twice the hops in one 14 barrel batch. It is named in honor of the exciting bike trail on Mt. Tam. If you are a "hophead", this one’s for you; fat, chewy, resiny and pungent! Pour into a wide-mouthed glass and get ready to rip!

It’s been a helluva Tuesday as far as kind customers at the bar go; thanks to some random lady! Deep red amber pour, small white frothy head. The appearance certainly belies this one, as the malt character is very slight and this seems to be absolutely packed with old school hops; strikes me as Chinook and Simcoe, with big damp earth, manure, loam, biting spruce tip, pine resin, and grapefruit. Clean given the 8%. Right on.

Nah man. Bottle just purchased and tastes old malty, metallic and not fresh. Pennies, acrid bitterness, caramel, and old grassy hops. Tastes like what people used to think were good DIPAs.

Tap @ the local tap house, Sydney 2012. Magnificent. Best dipa I have had. Dark copper with a off white head and strong lacing. Big aromas of passionfruit, grapefruit juice, pine as well as a solid caramel and bready malt backing. The citrusy grapefruit/passionfruit, with a hint of peach and nectarine hits the palate first and then a strong caramel malt element pegs it back before a delicious whack of pine without an oily mouthfeel to make it highly drinkable. Loved it.

Bottle split at Bruce’s pad, big thanks to the host with the most and the man with the pad, 27/03/14. Golden orange with a moderate light beige covering that retains. Nose is bitter tropicals, orange sherbet, light spice, caramel malt, bitter grapefruit. Taste comprises bitter hop bite, candied sugars, pine resin, grapefruit, tropical fruits, light booze. Medium + bodiment, fine carbonation, semi drying close with semi aggressive hop bitterness. Decent DIPA.

Tasting at Bruce’s. Thanks to our ever gracious host. Almost clear amber beer, good pale cream coloured head. Palate is smooth and airy with fine carbonation. Smooth malt, light and fluffy, little cream. Hops are bitterish with a little fresh hop spice. Pine and a little bitter orange, Finishes smooth with a mild bitter linger. Very nice, comes together very well.

Bottle shared in London - thanks to Bruce. Pours clear, rich gold with a frothy, off-white head. The nose has some dry pine, mild bread, caramel, dry orange. Medium sweet flavor with oily hop character, light alcohol kick, pine, orange, grapefruit. Medium to full bodied with fine carbonation. Warm finish with oily and sticky pine, nips of toasted bread and caramel. Tasty stuff.
