Hazy yellow color with a giant head. Just a hint of malt in the aroma and wheat and clove flavors.

A very interesting beer. Somethings that I really like and some that i dont care for. The pour was very nice til there was an excessive amount of white yeast coming through. I typically like yeasty beers but the pour was frighteningly high in it. On the other hand, its a nice cloudy light brown. Mouthfeel is very smooth and enjoyable. Flavor is excellent with the strong bock taste and the weizen crisp. The yeast was very thick on the bottom of the glass. I strongly recommend even though it had much more yeast than expected.

22oz. bottle. Murky yellow orange with a medium sized white head. Heavy banana ester and perfumey spice aromatics, some butteriness. Drying wheat malt up front. Bready, yeasty character with a vegetal spiciness. Residual banana and pear in the finish with a returning tinge of buttery malt. Mouthfeel is a light medium, fairly dry.

Bottle from BevMo. My bottle comes in at a pathetic 7.0%. Hazy yellow color upon pouring. Sweet yeasty aromas. Somewhat bready aroma. Sweet flavors along with some bitter grainy spices. A fair amount of yeast. Tastes like a beefed up wit more than anything. Pretty good though.

Pours with a frothy, initially three-finger thick, large bubbled head that sits atop a hazy, straw-gold colored beer. The beer has light aromatic notes of banana when I pop the cap as well as some notes of clove. There is a lightly tart note of lemons as some wheat-grain notes and perhaps some lightly spicy hop notes. This is quite light in the aromatic department, though it is not bad in any way. As with most Hefeweizens the aroma seems to fade pretty quickly no matter what one does. The components are here, I was just expecting something a bit more concentrated in something with Doppel in its name.

The beer is quite dry up front with a nice tart note to it. Spicy hop notes are quite a bit more prominent than in the aroma finishing off with a light bitterness. The finish is actually fairly sharp, which is a combination of tart wheat & yeast notes as well as a sharp yeasty bite and the aforementioned hop notes. This is quite light and easily quaffable, certainly the qualities one would want in a standard Hefeweizen. There are some light fruit notes here that remind me of apples and pears; these notes seem to be the major contribution of this being a Doppel, though they are fairly soft and well integrated with the rest of the beer.

Interesting, this beer is quite different than I was expecting. For some reason reading the bottle name I thought this would be a Weizenbock, once I poured it I was expecting a concentrated big Hefeweizen. Neither of these things really materialized. I am amazed how light and refreshing this beer is, despite its alcohol percentage. It does not have nearly as much character as I would expect from a traditional Hefeweizen yeast (perhaps it doesn’t use a traditional version). In the end, this is quite drinkable and even enjoyable, but I wish it had a touch more character.

Bottle sampled in late June ’06: Pours a hazy cloudy yellow with a thin ring of white head. Lightly sweet and wheaty aroma has some drier earthy noble hoppiness. Starts lightly sweet and grainy malty with some mild citrus and a drier tarter finish. Drinkable, but not very authentic and overly dry.

At first, this weizen seems real promising with the great aroma of fruity yeast and light dashing of coriander. But, after taking a sip it come up emtpy and a bit dissappointing. Mostly a bland yet sweet flavoring tributed by fruit such as pear or banana and light spicing. Some bready malt is also found and gives this brew a really nice balance which kind of made me like in the end. Very cloudy with chunks of dead yeast sinking to the bottom of the glass. Huge fluffy and soapy white foam.
