COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"In May 2009 we brewed a special batch of Old Dipsea Barleywine and aged it for 10 months in 4 Heaven Hill Bourbon barrels. We added a special strain of wild yeast or brettanomyces to further ferment and add complexity. Youíll notice an extra fruity character resembling pineapple and a tanginess not found in our standard Old Dipsea. We have bottled 100 cases and wax sealed the crowns."

Editorís note: This batch can be identified from the the 2009 Heaven Hill and Old Fitzgerald releases by being released in 2010, being red wax dipped, with a white sticker that says "Bourbon barrel aged for ten months 2009."

A damn fine beer, I would drink it until my liver gave way. Nothing offensive at all, just beer bliss. Very impressed, im not a marin fan, but this one is very complex, nice levels of flavor, not cloying, very drinkable, toffee, and just a hint of funky dryness.

Bottle. Dark brown reddish color with a tan head. Smells more like a wild than a barleywine. Reminiscent of Odell Saboteur in some aspects but much better. Oaky notes ever so slightly. A very wild and different taste. Brett wild start, sweet raisins, dark fruit with very little hop characteristics. Smooth. Slight alcohol taste. Medium mouthfeel.

2009 red wax bottle poured a dark brown in color with a small light tan head that took some coaxing out. aroma has vanilla from the barrels, wet oak, light sweet bourbon, damp brett, and a light funk. mouth feel is thick and coating and has a low carbonation. flavor starts with sweet bourbon, thick malt, vanilla, wet wood, approaches dark fruit, and has some mild spiciness. the brett is subdued and although it has plenty of sweet bourbon there is little burn.

Bottle: † Brett made its appearance as soon as I popped the cap on this one. † Deep ruby in color, large finely bubbled light beige head, nice lacing. † Looks the biz. † Brett on the nose, right up front, followed by a nice biscuity malty sweetness. † Bourbon isnít real noticeable until I take my first sip. † Brett is fleeting, up front, Bourbon reigns in, leaving behind a sweet malty biscuity backside. † Not really heavy, a little viscous, and certainly smooth. † I expected this one to be a bit hotter, but its really easy to take in. † I guess the age did that ey? † Backside actually shows a little hops. † Body and mouthfeel are full to moderate. † As I mentioned earlier, not realy heavy but its smooth. † Brett seems to be mainly in the aroma and right up front, Bourbon swings in behind, does stick around for a bit, Brett fades, leaving a nice english style Barley Wine with a little hop gift at the backside. † This was a treat, if not a heavy one. † Seems fairly refined. † Actually wished it was a bit hotter and thicker, but thats the masachist in me talking. † Great stuff, Brett adding a very interesting flair!

Bottle, sampled on a few occasions. Pours a murky, deep caramel brown with a creamy off white head. Nose holds light brett funk, some faint tropical fruits, caramel, toffee. A very interesting brew.
