3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Very sweet aroma, almost sickeningly so. Nice dark coloring, combining almost no head with a very nice mahogony color. Very sweet flavor, much more than I was expecting. Doesn’t show the alcohol, which is nice, but the flavor is a little overpowering for me. Doesn’t really compare with the Full Sail barleywine.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours brown/amber. Aromas of dried fruit and alcohol. Fruity up front, lots of figs and hints of citrus. Hops not prevalent, but there. Alcohol and finishing bitterness tingle the tongue.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
The aroma had coriander and dark fermented fruit, and caramel. The flavor had the same. The beer poured a reddish brown color w/ no head and lacing. The mouthfeel was medium bodied and creamy.

On tap at the 2003 Toronado Barleywine Festival: Super sweet. Cloying. Needs way more bittering hops to balance this beer. Very syrupy. (Note: Apparently my taste buds don't match the judges'--this beer took 5th place in the festival.)

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
I missed this at the Toronado Barleywine festival - so here it is in bottle. Dark pour with very little head. Strong malt with flavor. It is very thick and syrupy - needs to be balanced a bit with some hops. Strong plum sweetness. But the real question is, will Kansas overcome the 18 point deficit or will Syracuse continue to dominate?

4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Great barleywine. I like the mild bitterness on the finish, probably from a roasted malt more than a boiling hop. One of my favorites with Old Nick and Hog Heaven.

Poured a nice amber brown with light head. Malty caramel aroma and flavors with hints of hop fruitiness. An easy drinking enjoyable barleywine.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Aroma is dominated by floral and malty smells. A little alcogol present. Flavor was balanced - not a lot of finishing hops compared to other BWs. More of an old ale or scotch ale.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
From bottle into Duvel tulip. Pours a dark brown with some dark orange and red and practically no head. Big, sweet caramel with dark fruit and wet paper on the nose. The flavor is more of the same with toffee in the finish. Body is somewhat thin initially but became thicker further along into the bottle as sweetness and some alcohol presence really take over.
