Dogbrick (6178) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - JUN 10, 2008
Sample at the Most Honorable SuperHappyFun Stout Tasting. Bottle from Bevmo in Palmdale, CA. This brew pours the color of a cold cup of coffee with a medium khaki head that diminishes steadily. Stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of coffee, burnt malt and some dark chocolate. Medium, dry body with notes of coffee, dark fruit and toasted malt. The finish is burnt malt with a lingering hoppy taste left over. Above average overall.

On tap at the brewery. It pours a perfect porter darkness with thin tan head. It has a mild malt sweetness mixed with mild black patent burnt malts. The taste is rich roastiness swirling around with burnt malt notes. It’s a full flavored porter just like the stout. Plenty of flavor interest.

Bottle (650ml). Shared with blankboy, mds and tupalev, my bottle. Poured opaque black with a huge fluffy light brown head. Dry roasty and lactic aroma, chocolate malt, mild green hops. Taste of bitter chocolate roast malt, hoppy, dry, not as sweet as the aroma, medium-long bitter finish. Average porter body, light carbonation and astringency, bitter linger - above average porter.

Bomber bottle from SDAlkoholic and served in a Expedition snifter:

Deep brown and nearly opaque with a nice sized but fading frothy tan head and some lace. The aroma has notes of heavy malting (burnt, chocolate, and caramel), vienna roast coffee, beer nuts (yes beer nuts), some spicy and piney hops and finally a bit of alcohol vapors. The taste starts with a nice mocha and acidic fruit kick before being enveloped by heavy coffee and smoke characteristics. The feel is velvet and smooth with an interesting woody dry finish. I found this a solid brew and worth drinking again.

22. Thanks, Foolish_Mortal! Pours a deep, nearly opaque black with a thinnish, sudsy tan head. Odd nose of dark fruit, some chocolate and licorice. A bit schizophrenic. Medium-bodied attack, somewhat raw carb. Very forward plummy licorice flavors, not very pleasant. Mid-palate goes a bit watery and the finish is rather acetic grain husk. This seems so far off what the other notes say that I have to wonder whether it’s a bad batch.

This porter pours a dark brown color from a 22 ox bottle. Large sized tan foamy head, with good lacing. Aroma is chocolate, with a touch of toasty roasty malts. A medium to light bodied porter. Malts are chocolate and roasty, with a touch of burnt malt and coffee grounds. Fairly strong hop presence, piney and spicy. Lots of coffee and roasty flavors floating around in this one. Nice balance. Decent porter. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is crisp and clean. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

Bottle shared with HogTownHarry, mds & tupalev -- courtesy of HogTownHarry. Pours a very dark brown, almost black, with a large lasting light-brown head. Aroma of roasted malt and chocolate along with some yeast and hops. Dry flavour of roasted malt, chocolate, yeast and hops -- also a little lactic and with a pleasant bitter finish. Medium bodied, creamy mouthfeel. Almost Stout-like. I quite liked this.
