grant (759), Martinez, California, USA Jan 5, 2008 Very dark, brown; thin, but apparently long-lasting head. Coffee-laden, wet grain aroma, very earthy. Sweetish, toffee aspect to the aroma as well. Very sweet initially, mocha, light vanilla, grainy flavors. Lightly creamy, wispily smoky, full bodied. Light bitterness, fairly carbonated. It works. It’s a big stout, but stays handily away from coming across as "imperial."
ucusty (1016), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA Aug 23, 2008 Black pour with a tan head. Slightly over carbonated. Roasty aroma. Chocolate & espresso with a crisp clean palate. doublebock (154), USA Aug 15, 2008 Veltety black color and thick dark tan froth and faint burnt malt and bready aroma. Taste is an immediate and strong mouthful of roast espresso and smooth creamy palate. Ale_Drinker (1066), Sunnyvale, California, USA Jul 21, 2008 Pours opaque black. No light comes through whatsoever, not even around the edges of the glass. Head is brown, one of the darker heads I’ve seen. Aroma is heavily roasted malt, I don’t pick up anything burnt in the aroma. Smells very smooth. Flavor is very dry. Lots of roasted malt, no astringency. Body is surprisingly light considering how rich this beer is. Very nice stout. Oscbert (243), Sacramento, California, USA Jul 14, 2008 ~Pours black with creamy brown head
~Somewhat sweet scent with roasted chocolate malts.
~Light chocolate flavor followed by lightly burnt malts and bitter coffee.
~Mouth feel is nice. Smooth, creamy and light. Frothy.
~ This is a very enjoyable stout. Plenty of flavor, but still a bit light. Easy to drink a few of these. Nik925 (92), California, USA Jul 9, 2008 Great tan head, as advertised. Good amount of burn on the malt. Surprisingly simple. Marin chickened out on going all the way on this one. They went all the way on their IPA, but this one is constrained. Perfectly made, but not amazing or special enough for a great score.
