3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 nellycale (45) - - JUN 10, 2013
On draft at Marin. Clear yellow with a white head and nice lacing. Aroma of floral, pine, citrus and just a faint toasty malt. Flavor is very bitter with minimal malt character and a light alcohol presence. Light body with active carbonation and a dry, bitter finish. This is really good, super light with a ton of hop character.

On tap @ Hamilton’s: Appeared as a glowing vibrant golden orange with a thin layer of film head covering. Aroma is mild with only a whiff of oily hops. The flavor is dominated by piney hops that suggest a generous squeeze of citrus. Also has a sugary taste which reminded me of watered down limeade while bringing out a slight hint of spice in the background.

OK, I knew nothing of this beer before trying it and was wondering if it was going to be a floral mess. Boy was I wrong. Gold medal last year!??! Wow. OK, poured up on tap at GABF 2012 with a pale gold body that exhibits a nice yet slight hop haze and supports an off white head of foam. The mild aroma is a little bit sweet and a little bit floral and really not much else beyond that. Smells good though. The flavor is nice, man this is pretty rich with firm floral hop bitterness, a bitter hop spiciness and then a touch of earthiness. Wow, terrific flavor and fully bitter hop forward from front to back but it offers up a touch of backbone to add wonderful depth and richness. Yes.

A hazed golden orange pour with a white head. Nose is rather heavy on the bread and rye. Some floral, spicy, and citrus peel hops. The rye really comes out as it warms. The flavor is fairly sweet with a ton of rye flavor. There’s a light hop bitterness, some floral hops, a light citrus note, and perhaps a hint of spice.

On tap. Clear bright yellow with a fizzy white head. Strong earthy hops aroma with notes of grass and pine. Earthy bitter soapy taste with the hops completely overshadowing the tastes of the rye.

Tap: blonde pour with thin white head. Aroma is piney hops with a little orange peel and toasted malt. Flavor is mild bittersweet pine, grapefruit and malt. A rather easy drinking IPA with decent flavor, could use a bit more carbonation.

A - Served a hazy golden-yellow color with a thin finger of frothy white head atop. The head fades down at a normal pace leaving behind some good lace.
S - Aroma is a mix of sweet caramel malts with some spicy rye, and some earthy and citrus hops.
T - Starts off with some sweet caramel malt with some light spice from the rye and some citrus hop. Through the middle, some more piney hops come through with more bitterness. The finish is mix of rye with some citrus hops and light bitterness.
M - Medium-plus bodied with moderate carbonation. Feels smooth with a nice spicy and dry finish.
D - Very drinkable. Really nice rye addition to the IPA base. Really nice balance of malt, grain, and hops.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Frank (2189) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 24, 2012
This is very pale for an IPA and slightly cloudy w/ a small head. Its nose is big and fruity w/ a fresh grape-like character. This is very well balance, smooth w/ medium carbonation. It has a maltiness that implies some sweetness w/o feeling sluggish or sticky. Very tasty.
