3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 FoolishMortal (981) - San Diego, California, USA - MAY 19, 2005
2005 Vintage. Deep golden color, generous white head. Aromatics are very weizen-like. Nose is like a neutral hefeweizen. These flavors are then washed over by a dominant spicy ester flavor punctuated by a large alcohol heat. Finish is a cloying sensation of those same flavors. Mouthfeel is fairly light for such a high ABV (10.1% in the 05 vintage). Not very "to style."
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 DYCSoccer17 (3014) - Woodland, California, USA - APR 3, 2005
UPDATED: MAR 20, 2007 Sampled with SoCal RB guys...thanks to whomever who brought this..Fruity citrus peppered lemon aroma. Doesnt really smell like a triple---more like a wit. Still smells refreshing. Moderately hazy golden/yellow color with a small white head. I’d like this to be darker and hazier. Lemon citrus astringent flavor. Very smooth and malty. Yummy, and perhaps not true to the style, but still very enjoyable. Update: 2006 bottle. beer has a significant peppery clove flavor with a bit of sweet sugariness going on as well. Mild banana hints with an ethanol burn present. I decreased the palate from a 5 to a 3 and overall from a 15 to a 13. When i initially sampled this, my palate was rahter fatigued and I overrated it. I still think that giving it a 3.3 might be a bit too generous...-----re-rate-& vintage bottle purchased at BevMo in Sacramento Natomas. Aroma is peculiar. I smell a fair amount of gumballs as well as some root beer. More spiciness and a little banana is here. Light ethanol burn in the nose. Lacks harmony. Mild-moderately hazy honey-colored nose with a quickly dissipating off-yellowish head and feeble lacing. Sweet, grainy, sugary, malty flavors to start. Definite ethanol burn in the middle with some more banana-like sweetness to finish. Bleh. Above rating is based on this sample. This is a second re-rate and I like this less and less each time.

Big candy suger and clove nose with some citric acid and coriande note. Some residual suger with a good pils. malt abalnce. Pilsner malts are very common in Tripels. Nice soft and round mouthfeel with good conditioning.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Crosling (1863) - Loveland, Colorado, USA - OCT 4, 2004
Orange.
Interesting nose of sweet malts, flowers, msotly hops, pungent alcohol, pear and banana.
Notes of papaya, deep sweet malt, strawberry, melon, pineapple and orange are present in its flavor profile. The finish is fairly complex with hints of spices and yeast.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Slick (1971) - Thief River Falls, Minnesota, USA - AUG 2, 2004
Nice golden orange color, small white head that faded quickly leaving a slight lace behind.Very nice fruity and mild hop aroma with maybe a mild hint of spice coming through as it warms up.Fruity flavor with a mild hop presence and the alcohol manages to stay fairly well hidden with the exception of a mild hint in the middle and warming effect at the end of the tasting.Very nice brew that i wish i had much more of and it definately doesn’t deserve thelow rating it has. Thanks to Flipbrewer for sending this fine rbew my way.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 bb (5888) - Alamo, California, USA - JUL 9, 2004
Draft. Cloudy-orange beer with a quickly dissapating head. Orange citurs aroma wityh some spice and yeast. Big orange flavor, some backing from the malt and yeast and some other fruit flavors (apricot). Clean and dry finish. You’ll like this if you want a bit of fruit.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 CaptainCougar (7093) - Columbia, Maryland, USA - JUN 26, 2004
2004, 15th Anniversary bottle, 9.2% abv: Pours a clear pale golden with a puffy white head. Sweet caramel bready malt aroma has a nice subtle Belgian yeastiness. Body starts light and crisp with a well balanced sweetness and mild bitterness toward a somewhat yeasty finish that hides the alcohol quite well. Some nice Belgian tasting attributes, but could stand to be a bit more complex and balanced. Still very drinkable and enjoyable.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 5000 (4974) - Hardened Liver, Washington, USA - JUN 22, 2004
Bottle pours golden, small dishwater like head, minimal carbonation, small yeasties abound, with average lacing.   Sweet malty aroma with caramel mixed in.   Quite fruity up front - apple and pear, giving way to a lightly sweetened caramel, finishing with more of a fruity taste.   Seems like a barleywine crossed with a triple, but very light.   The 9.1% isnt noticable.   Body and mouthfeel are somewhat thin.   Not one of the better Triples I’ve had, but definitely drinkable.   Thanks goes out to Flipbrewer for the trade!
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 beerguy101 (5206) - Newark, California, USA - JUN 18, 2004
Orange gold color. Medium white foamy head. Aroma is malt, yeast, sweet and spicy. A medium bodied Belgian Strong Ale. Malts are fruity; orange, apricots, peaches. Spicy and yeasty with a very definite alcohol presence. Kind of sweet. Touches of banana, clove and pepper. Not sure if I would call this a triple, but not bad. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.
3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 scraff (2121) - Baltimore, Maryland, USA - JUN 15, 2004
Clear gold, thick white head. Interesting nose of spice, apricot, melon, and pear with a touch of pepper. Flavors adds to the above with bready notes, toffee, light banana, and fuzzy fruit. Full bodied, smooth, lightly spiced finish. Decent, but nothing great. Thanks again Scott!
