Bottle. Dark golden, decent head retention, thick malty aroma. Drinks meatier than many tripels, almost lager-like. There’s a hint of a musty farmhouse moistness, and this hides its 9% well. Clean and unoffending, but not outstanding. (#5916, 1/13/2015)

Sampled in San Fransisco last summer from notes. Pours a clear copper color with a medium sized off white head. The aroma and flavor have a nice fruity character with pear and a mild citrus, alcohol heat, spices with clove, coriander and a hint of pepper, sweet caramel malt, some apple that hits late. Big flavors with a lighter body turn me off a bit.

This has a lot of complexity, and all the hallmarks of a tripel, but much more as well. It may be the yeast, that drives some of the most interesting notes, lightly sour and a restrained alcohol. Good. (on tap, Toronado, S.F.)

Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured a very hazy apricot color with a large creamy orange-white head that lingered. The aroma was sweet and tangy peach, pear, sugar and sourdough bread. The flavor was sweet cherry, sourdough bread, honey, pear, peach and sugar. Medium length tangy bread, pear and sugar finish. Moderately full bodied. Nice.

Draft pour. Hazy copper color with a small off-white head. Aroma was Belgian yeast notes, light and sweet malts, some fruit notes. Flavor was Belgian spices, notes of bready yeast, some fruit notes. Alcohol pretty well masked in this one.

Clear amber pour with a tall white head. Really nice pear and banana aroma. Some clove and coriander spice, a hint of pepper, and some alcohol. Nice sweet sugar and caramel, too. The flavor is quite sweet and fruity. Big pear, apple, and banana. Some coriander, light pepper, and sweet sugar. Mild alcohol on the finish. Kind of thin bodied.

The beer finishes very dry. Smells sour, but isn’t when you taste it. Beautiful orange with 1-finger head that leaves lacing. Not great, but good.

Golden orange pour with small off white head. Aroma of yeast, fruit and lychee nut. Taste of caramel, yeast, orange rind and vanilla. Nice mouthfeel and carbonation, a little cloying though but pretty good beer.

Bomber served in a tulip. Hazy golden orange with minimal head. Aroma of fruit, dough, and light spice. Light sweet malt and yeast flavors. Medium body, flat carbonation, sticky-creamy texture, and a sticky, light bitter finish. Not great. May be past its prime.

At 2012 Avery Strong Ale Fest. Clear gold with a thin white head. Aroma hits with biscuit/light fruity yeast, and a bit of pale grains. Flavor is Belgo-rific , with pale grain sweetness, some biscuity yeast, a touch of dusty bubblegum...just a solid, sippable tripel.
