Sample at the brewpub. The beer pours a clear dark orange color with a medium off-white head that recedes steadily. Strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of malt, hops and caramel. Light-bodied with flavors of toasted malt, caramel and mild hops. The finish is sweet with a caramel aftertaste. Slightly above average overall.

UPDATED: JAN 4, 2013 Serving: from bottle--purchased at Total Wine & More. Aroma: lightly hoppy. Appearance: almost no head with no lacing and fully diminishing longevity. Cloudy, red body. Taste: lightly acidic initial flavor and lightly bitter finish with average duration. Palate: light to medium body, watery texture and lively carbonation. Overall: very good beer that is refreshing and easy to drink. Look forward to drinking it again.

Bottle. Pours a copper amber with light off-white head. Aroma and flavor is malty, and a bit bready. Spicy finish. Easy drinking, but not very complex.

Malty aroma. Decent malty flavor. Not too much going on. Spicy finish. Decent but nothing memorable.

UPDATED: AUG 29, 2012 On tap at a bar in the U district. Pours redish with small head. Smell is hoppy. Taste caramel and hops. Pretty decent. "Soured" version on cask at Beveridge Place. Brownish color. Smell is wood and earth, bit of hops. Taste is funky, not really sour, red ale flavors, dirt, plant and vegetable. I believe they said this was aged in the barrel too long and it went sort of sour.

355ml bottle pours amber in color with a finger and a half of off-white head that leaves only a few specks of lace. Aroma is mild floral hops and hints of caramel. Taste is caramel malty sweetness with a hint of roasty bitterness followed by a nice hoppy bitterness in the finish. This beer was light to medium bodied with some soft carbonation. This was a decent amber ale, but just seemed to be missing a little something.

Again, this brewer disappoints, and Iím not sure why. It cannot be that hard to brew a decent beer, but this brewer just canít do it. There is no real aroma to entice, and the head is medium, then gone in the blink of an eye. Primary taste here is roasted malt, with a very slight bitter finish. Unfortunately the palate is very unsatisfying, primarily with a thin character. Will not buy this one again.

Tap @ Jolly Roger Taproom. Nice, colorful, dark orange appearance with an ivory head. Slightly roasty, nutty, caramel malty, slightly piney hoppy nose. A bit nutty, toffee, caramel malty, a but piney hoppy flavor. Great amber ale.

This has been one of my favorite beers for a long time. Great malty flavors and hopped just the right amount to make this beer scream for another taste.
