Decently hopped with full fruit body but slightly bitter aftertaste. Looks like an IIPA but drinks like a regular one. DYCSoccer17 (2190), Davis, California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 15, 2006 On tap at Barking Dog in Seattle. Half Pint. Large grainy, piney, citric PNW hoppiness in the nose. Some aromatic notes of orange are predominant. Pleasant aroma. Moderately hazy honey color with a somewhat frothy whitish head and decent lacing. Lightly sweet start, turning a bitter piney and grapefruity flavor. Plenty of hops and bitterness present. There are enough malts to make this drinkable, but this is borderline over-hopped. JorisPPattyn (5168), Antwerpen, Belgium
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 20, 2006 Cask version, marks as above Just hazy honey-yellow beer, persistent white head. Nice flowery, honeyish and grapefruit hoparoma’s. Very nice nose, something perfumey or bathtub-filler notwithstanding. Flowery, but not very assertive hoppiness in the taste, with obvious grapefruit flavour. Traces of diacetyl, not disturbing. Grapefruit zeste retronasal. Not very big bodied, but makes it more drinkable, even refreshing. Ah, so they CAN make cask ale, if they want. Quite OK IPA, just... why "Imperial"?
Keg Nearly clear orange-amber; good stable, small just off-white head. 4 Grapey hops, biscuity (the cookies, not oxydized) aroma. 7 Bitterness is "delayed action", as first impression is sweet, then metallic bitterness kicks in. 7 Harsh, metallic resiny impression and feel 3 OK IPA, but again the delayed action diminishes it, specially in MF. 14 = 3.5 fordest (1954), Santee/San Diego, California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 5, 2006 12 oz bottle thanks to acertain. Golden yellow with a small fading head. Aromas were citrus, mostly tangerine. Pretty sweet. Flavors were still sweet and malty up front with some grass in the middle and a lingering bitterness in the finish. Alcohol well hidden. Not sure I would have put this in the DOUBLE IPA catagory. But still pretty good. Oakes (8081), gone rambling, Vietnam
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 22, 2006 Hazy straw. Grapefruity, lemony aroma. Light pale malt with peachy notes. Fairly bitter. Clean and balanced, in that PNW sort of way. goldtwins (4079), Nesconset, New York, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 18, 2006 Poured a clear dark golden color with a quickly dissolving medium sized white head. Sweet aroma with caramel and fruit. Somewhat like pineapple and a touch of pine. Malty flavor starts sweet but drys out rather quickly. Leaving a bitter hop finish. Some pine and an artificial sweetener taste. jimbowood (951), Athens, Georgia, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 20, 2006 Bottle courtesy of acertain pours straw blonde w/ a white head w/ no discrenable aroma. Flavor is caramel w/ hop bitterness in the aftertaste. Reminds me of a hoppy cream ale instead of a iipa. Really drinkable. Interesting, but not true to the style. acertain (249), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Feb 13, 2006 Pours pretty light and without much head. Notes of butterscotch in the aroma, but little else. Flavor is of bitter hops, but without a balancing hit of floral; also, the malt is definitely overshadowed by the bitter. I was disappointed with what I thought was going to be a big, balanced, complex beer.
