3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 whaleman (2176) - North Wales, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 9, 2004
Served on cask at Market Cross Pub. Clear reddish-copper body and small creamy head. Aroma of fresh crystal malt and moderate spicy/earthy hops. Crystal malt flavor with a brown sugar quality and a big fruity, chocolate note. Medium bodied with low to moderate residual sweetness. Not just another amber/red ale, this is far from run-of-the-mill and very nice.

Tap at the brewpub. Hazy orange, nice off-white head. Fruity hoppy aroma, touch of carmel. Malty w/carmel notes and a nice hoppy finish. Hop flavors are nice but gentle. This is a real nice red.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 jehoey (765) - Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, USA - AUG 6, 2006
UPDATED: MAY 17, 2009 5 oz. sample aroma was minimal. slight bit of barley and hops. It looked an amber color, not really red as the name suggests. Flavor was balance of malt and hops, but lacked any sort of depth. Very carbonated mouthfeel, way too carbonated. an okay brew.
Rerate: Just noticed I gave this beer such a poor rating. I’ve had it several times since and actually quite enjoy it. Maltly with some medium caramel notes that aren’t overpowering, with nice english hop character mid palate and a finish that is bitter in the way an english bitter is. very much like a bitter accept with clean american ale yeast. nice session beer, that I could drink often.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 axilla (962) - New Providence, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 8, 2006
cask @ brewery. Poured a slightly hazy red/orange color with a small, sticky off-white head. Somewhat earthy hop nose with a little grapefruit. Flavors were malty with some sugars and a good bit of grapefruit, fresh cut grass, and mild funk in the finish. The cask version was a bit better than the regular tap.

on tap-pours a big light tan head that laces and hazy copper color. Aroma is light/medium malt-caramel, fruit. Taste is resin/earthy hops (some EKG?), grainy/light/medium malt-slight caramel. Medium body.

UPDATED: NOV 20, 2006 Bottle... Hazy, orange ale with a small, fizzy, white head. Spotty lacing. The nose is of light chocolate, toffee and caramel with a light note of lemon. Decently balanced flavor, but leans toward the malt with notes of clover honey, toffee and straw. Medium-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and mild carbonation. Lengthy, mildly sweet, straw finish.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 dancatts (91) - Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 15, 2007
On draught, had a dark red appearance with little head. Taste begins malty and smooth and gives way to a slight hop flavor. Not their best beer, but still worth a try.
