COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Scots love their malt, whether it be in whiskey or beer, and our Scotch Ale follows suit - with plenty of deep caramelized malt flavor that makes this beer oh-so-smooth. Named for Cleveland’s Wallace House Tavern, opened in 1809.

Tap at the brewpub. Notes of sweet dough, caramel, touch of brown sugar and raisins. Okay.

This was only a mediocre scotch ale and perhaps one of the weaker links on the board. That’s not to say it does not have some merit; it is just a beer that is par for the course. Examples like it are almost a dime a dozen.

Aroma / Appearance - Semi-opaque with a mahogany hue the appearance is warm like polished dark hardwood floors. Caramel, maple sugar, powdered sugar poured generously over a bearclaw, and velvet textures invite more attention despite some lack of focus.

Flavor / Palate - Caramel with a velvety feel soothes the palate after just a few sips. The nutty transition is carbonated and proceeds to a warm finish. The alcohol is strong for 6.5% ABV though not so much you would experience fatigue after a pint. Even so I can think of about six other taps I would revisit first.

Tap sample. Poured a clear dark reddish brown color with an average frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy toasted sweet malt and earth aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy toffee flavor with a medium to heavy sweet finish of moderate duration. This is a very good brew.

Sample at the brewpub on 8/29/11. Pours a deep red/copper color with a medium beige head. Aroma of black cherry and caramel corn with a bit of peat. Fruity cherry and dense caramel malt flavor with slight peat. Very nice scotch ale.

Dogbrick (4842) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - AUG 3, 2011
Sample at the brewpub. The beer pours a dark brownish-amber color with a medium creamy off-white head that diminishes slowly. Rings of lacing. Aroma of caramel, earthy malt and fruit. Medium body with flavors of peaty malt, caramel and a distinct smoky note. Some hops in the background too. Smoked malt aftertaste lingers. Decent overall.
