06/03 Draught at Zum Nussbaum, Berlin. It poured clear dark brown body with medium sized brownish head. Caramel dominated aroma, but dry coffee is also here. Quite weak flavor, sweetish dark malts, some fruitiness, not balanced enough with bitter coffee and burned sugar. Thinner in body with shorter bitterish finish. OK enough, but misses body and finer coffee malt profile for a schwarzbier.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap everywhere in Berlin. Pours a roasted coffee color with a frothy brown head. Smells earthy -- ike the father land. Loaded with malt, barley, distant caramel, and a touch of anise. Dece.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Draught at Zum Nussbaum, Berlin
Poured a black-dark red-brown body with a small off white head that went away at a medium pace. Light, slightly odd sweet nose. Plums I guess. Sweet taste but not excessively so, dark malts, light coffee, honey, light metal near the end. Slightly meaty. Light bitter finish. Ok enough.

500 ml bottle. Black with brownish hues. Tall off-white head that clings to the glass. Dry papery lightly roasted malty aroma. Clean flavours. The hops are neutral. Dry mouthfeel. Not much residual sugars either and the body is on the thin side. Pretty much an average Schwartzbier.

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Taste is roasty and woody. Color is black and deep. Head is white, nice foam then flat. The taste is nice, but a bit easy, somewhat typical german. Alcohol a bit weak in my opinion, a bit simple. Better then the commercial Koesritzer. Medium Schwarzbier.

300ml vom fass during a stadtrundfahrt in the restaurant of the Berliner Fernsehturm where the beer was served at a fine drinking temperature. Deep, mahogany body. Film-type layer. Firm roasted, almost burnt, aroma of dark malts. Brittle malty flavour with a caramel touch and hints of tart berries far beneath. Medium bodied. Good, however a bit boring in the long run (Berlin, 20.11.2009).

Draught at Alt-Berliner Weissbierstube, Berlin, March 2009. Very handsome dark red/brown colour. Generous beige head. Lightly roast aroma with just a hint of chocolate. Relatively bitter on the palate with burnt malt and nutty notes - almost chestnuts. Good.

UPDATED: JUL 17, 2011 Draught at Zur Letzten Instanz, Berlin, Germany on 28th September 2009. Dark ruby with pale brown head. Sweet with a few roast barley notes which are the main "accent". A sweetish finish on a fizzy mouthfeel. Some fruity notes, mainly of berries.

Bottle. Near black in colour with a slight, off-white head. Thin, sweetish aroma of chocolate and red fruit. Roasty flavour with bready malts and a touch of milk chocolate. finish had anodd savoury edge to it. Ok.
