2.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Bronstein (175) - Göttingen, - MAY 19, 2003
Milk coffee and toasted malt nose. Malt, milk coffee and sweet licorice also dominate the flavour of this Schwarzbier. There is also a light acidity. Sweeter(!!!) than most of the competitors.

Fazit: Nicht so toll, knapp unterm Durchschnitt.

2.3 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 mzaar (445) - Varberg, SWEDEN - MAY 7, 2012
3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 BlackHaddock (1709) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - MAY 4, 2012
Nov 2006 from BA: When I left Berlin in 1990, just after the wall came down, this beer was unheard of. Black beers were not popular in the West, only a few East German breweries kept up the tradition of this style.
How pleased and surprised I was to be given this half litre bottle by my wife, after she had revisited the city with some friends.
A real dark ruby, almost truely black colour, with a fine light brown foaming head, which sadly disappeared very quickly after my first mouthfull.
No great smell, burnt caramel, malt and mushrooms, in that order.
Fizzy, full bodied and slightly sweet, I liked it.
Aftertaste stays with you longer than the head did, a kind of burnt maltyness lingers in the back of your mouth, which I enjoyed.
Very drinkable, I am going back to Berlin, early 2007 and hope to find this on tap somewhere, a second review will be posted if I do.

Very decent for a supermarket schwarzbier. Roasted, a bit watery, with residual sweetness at the end. Bought this at the Hauptbahnhof in Berlin on my way back to A’dam.

On tap at KaDeWe, Berlin. Pours black as the russian caviar in the counter next to me, with a big creamy tanned head. Aroma of sweet caramel. Taste is weak dark caramel, a tad too sweet for my likings. Watery mouthfee.

Rating #702, from tap at Kartoffelkeller at Albertstrasse, Berlin:
A mahoghany brown beer or maybe a bit lighter, clearly filteret and attempts at lacings. I would have rated this 4 in apperance for an altbier (I thought it was an altbier attempt gone wrong), but it is very light for a schwarzbier, and therefore I have to give it 3. Aroma is boring. There is some roasted malts and a hint of bread. Very dry and quite boring flavor with malts, bread, and a good portion of bitter hops in the finish. Somewhat roasted. A bit thin beer with soft and nice carbonation. I wouldn’t buy it again, because it’s so boring.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 mattphilips (747) - Budapest, HUNGARY - OCT 26, 2011
