A decent chocolate porter but nothing exceptional. Mild grain, caramel and chocolate smell with chestnut appearance - not as dark as most porter’s I’ve had. The taste is quite bitter at the start which then rounds off with roasted malt and milk choclate at the back end. A thin and dry mouthfeel which actually masks the 6% abv very well. Probably best to have with a rich pudding.

500ml bottle from M&S. Pours dark red rather than black like a porter usually does. Smells of cocoa powder. Initially tastes of nice chocolate but it soon starts to taste artificial. Quite a bad, sour, alcohol finish. Excellent start but bad finish.

allmyvinyl (4224) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - NOV 22, 2014
500ml bottle from M&S, the Gyle, Edinburgh. Pours clear copper (?), nice off-white head. Aromas are cocoa powder, creamy sweet. Slightly artificial. Taste is far to sweet. This is like an Alcopop. Chocolate flavoured drink barely related to beer.

blackisle (856) - IJburg, NETHERLANDS - OCT 17, 2014
Bottle 50cl. from M&S Amsterdam. Color clear amber brown. Small frothy beige head, recedes after a while to a thin layer, light lacing; aroma sweet malty, cocoa, milk chocolate, hint of vanilla; taste moderate sweet, light bitter, milk chocolate, some toffee; medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation; finish dry bittersweet, earthy notes.

500ml bottle from M&S. Colour is deep amber with an off-white foamy head. Aroma of caramel, toffee, fruit and cacao. Flavour is sweet and malty with strong cacao and caramel. Medium body.

Shared bottle. Clear orange golden body with a white film. Dried fruits and vanillin on the nose and in the mouth. Medium bodied. Long wooden gentle bitterness

Shared 500 ml bottle at local tasting, bought at M&S in Guernsey. ABV is 6.0%. Cognac colour, the palest "porter" I’ve seen. Moderate aroma of chocolate and dust. Chocolate flavour, but not very sweet. Bitter finish and aftertaste. Robinsons can do better than this.

Clear pale copper. Pale beige head. Soft and slightly unfresh aroma of vanilla and berries. Some bitterness and artificial vanilla in taste. Soapish bitterness and old chocolate in univiting aftertaste.

Bottle from M and S in Eastbourne shared with McTapps. Nice try to emulate a chocolate porter. But the problem with this is its lack of body, its dominance by wateriness and a strange sour ending. Yes, ot offers some chocolate in the aroma but you will notice it really. Waste of time and money.

Bottle bought at local Marks & Spencer in Eastbourne. Pours out in a strange hazy amber-light ruby colour with low head and flat body. Aroma of old chocolate and barley. Taste of sweet light malt, cheap milk chocolate, sugar and cacao. Awful stuff, really. Nothing to do with a porter and the finish - meh. Awful sour-sweet chocolate stuff.
