This full-bodied dry stout bottled in County Carlow, south-west of Dublin is based on an authentic recipe first introduced around 1740. Its taste was said to make grown men weep for more! Its unique blend of roasted malts, grains and bitter hops ensures a deliciously balanced and smooth flavor.

Bottle. Very dark black colour. Beige, small head may be due to the fact the beer was very cold. Aroma roasted, coffee, bit toffee and chocolate. Taste roasted, maybe bit burnt. Some earthy tones.. Overallv good.

The beer has a typical stout aroma. The beer is almost black at the naked eye, dark ruby red with a light behind it. The thick layer of foam is rough and has a dark almond color. The foam disapears quickly. A stout isn’t a ’foam-beer’. The smell is amazing. The sweet smell of the delicious roasted barley arises you. It is accompanied by coffe and dark chocolate tones. The aroma is near perfect. The taste has a bitter roast taste. The bitternes slightly out balances the sweetness. There is also a little citrusy sweet taste of hops, although this taste isn’t that strong. The finish is mostly that good roasted taste, which stays with you for quite some time. The palate is nice. The fine gas bubbles tingle the tongue, but aren’t to rough. Nice.

Foamy beige head with strong root aroma. Coffee colored body. Thick in mouth but too much malty root. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

500ml bottle, BB Nov 2015 from M&S Richmond. Black, small foamy tan head, some sparse lacing. Aroma is chocolatey, a little ash, sweet malt, crayon. Body is medium, a little foamy, low carbonation. Taste is quite sweet, ashy roast, watery malt, finishes sweet with more crayon and no real bitterness. Decent enough. Nice aroma.

Pours deep mahogany with a tan head. Starts with some quite nice smooth chocolatey notes along with a little blackcurrant frutiness. The finish is dry and a touch metallic. Maybe a touch thin too. Otherwise pretty good.

From 0,5l bottle, BBD: 11/2014. Pours clear dark brown liquid, red to brown against light, medium brown frothy head, Aroma: sweet, roasty, dark chocolate, milk, Taste: light sweet, medium bitter, light to medium sour, roasty notes, espresso, dark chocolate, citrus, at the beginning some metallic off taste, bit watery, but at the end with higher temperature ok. Palate: medium body, slick texture, average carbonation, long bitter-sour finish. Overall: expected more fro an Irish dry Stout, but drinkable - after warming up a bit.
