COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle unpasteurised; Regular
This beer has a blend of British and American influences, hence the adapted crest from the gates of Greenwich hospital, showing the two flags. India Pale Ale is traditionally strong and hoppy. This contemporary interpretation of the style is made with a blend of 7 dark malts, English and American hops.

The aroma is hops with some background sweetness. The beer is black with a nice tan head which retains well. Whilst the aroma is average the flavour is excellent. Dark chocolate and liquorice with a dry and medium bitter finish. This is the first time I have tried a Black IPA and hopefully it wont be the last.

Bottle from M&S. Is it too pedantic to discuss whether or not this is a BIPA? Seems more like a Stout to me. The roast flavours are very pleasant and the sweet, mellifluous fruity charcoal builds throughout the swig. Not much of a hop hit at any point. Iím a bit scared to conment on Meantime beers these days, for fear of being labelled a clueless, sad, trainspotter or whatever. I like their Yakima Red a lot, but this one was nice rather than niiiiiice.

Smell of cordite on bottle sniff. Not very BIPA. Slightly acrid taste of when you stick your tongue on the side of a machbox. Slight Burton snatch? Fruity but not citrussy aroma. Smell of old fashoined sweet shop Slight smoke. Long biitter grapefruit finish with smoky bacon hop death. Slight porter note, Good.

Bottle from M&S, Oxford, purchased and consumed the same day with dad, Saturday 8th November 2014 Pours black with a large billowing light beige head. Bitter and roasty with a good malty base. Good black IPA, fruity with some bitter hops showing, really pleasant. A7 A4 T7 P4 Ov14 3.6

bottled ; good fucken beige head ,dimples in it resemble the moon above near black ; nose maybe subtle compred to more in-ya-face in this style but some floral hops covered in chocolate roast , would make an ok room air-freshner ; palate is grassy ,chewey , both bitter hoppy and bitter roast malted creating a nice interplay ; pine , lemon , spice zest -with burnt chocolate ; a pretty nice fucken unity here ; could swill lots of this .

500ml bottle. Pours black with thick, tan head. Aroma is all treacle. Coffee, a hint of bitter chocolate and toasted malt. Very thick mouth feel. Not sure Iíd class this as an IPA, buy very nice nonetheless

Roasted malt dominance throughout. The hops are fairly masked by this, which is a shame and, as previous comments state, this could almost be a stout. Still, it has a good flavour, pretty easy drinking, looks great and at £2.39 a bottle (or 3 for £6), itís well priced. Add more hops!!

Bottle from M&S. Pour is black with a caramel head, aroma is fruity caramel. Taste is roast malts, coffee, burnt notes, but unfortunately little hops, some bitterness towards the finish; body is light, carbonation is soft. Nice beer, but you could sell this as a stout

Bottle. I'm naturally wary of Meantime, having had disappointing beers in the past. Black IPA is pretty good though, it has enough body to please - although the finish could be longer - and I'd buy this again. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
