COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewed for Marks & Spencer by Meantime.
Note: This is not the same beer as the Meantime Yakima Red. They are similar recipes, but are not the same. They use completely different hops and malts.

Brewed with Crystal and Caramel malts for a deep copper red colour and 5 different types of American hops from the Yakima Valley in Washington State for a refreshingly balanced flavour.

Hazy red - brown beer with a decent pale tan head. Palate is light and a little crisp. Minerally carbonation. Watery malt, slightl lactose. Mild tangy orange and a touch of dark marmalade. Crisp and semi dry finish. Inoffensive but bland. Really doesn’t match the grandiosity of the bottle!

Bottle at the ChrisO Holiday Tasting, London - thanks to me. Pours clear copper with a fine, fleshy foam head. Faint toasty pine nose, light caramel. Light sweet flavor, further mellow caramel malts, faint bread. Light to medium bodied with high, mouth-filling carbonation. Lightly drying finish with faint orange citrus, dry and wimpy toasty caramel. Kind of bland overall, though not offensive.

Bottled, 750ml Cork & Caged from Marks & Spencers in Banbury. Red amber with white head. I had a slightly fusty aroma to this on opening which lead to a cigarette ash, flat note on drinking, again a little grainy, fusty. Sweet malts then start to emerge along with a fruity hop arrangement, nothing too specific. The 750ml got to be a struggle as there was quite a bit of carbonation going on. Ok, but not one I would go back to.

Bottle at ChrisO tasting, thanks to Leighton, 30/12/12. Lightly hazed reddish brown with a thin tan head that clears to a film. Nose is caramel malt, light grapefruit, sugars, background hops. Taste follows, caramel malt at the fore, touch of pine, bitter tropical fruit notes. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, some bitterness in the dryish finish. Decent.

750ml corked bottle (’Greenwich Red Ale’) from Fosse M+S. Pours pale, clear ruby with a flattening cream head. Enticing, musky, red berry-laden aroma with hints of sherbet and cinder toffee; fresh-rubbed oily hop backed with chocolate and digestive maltiness. Crisp, well-bittered berry, flowers and peaches hop flavour balanced attractively with cinder toffee, liquorice and walnut notes. Chorophyll-hoppy on the belch. Tasty: like a bottled Sheps with added US hops, but better.
