3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Bronze with a small head. Malty with some fruitiness. Plenty of body considering its relatively low strength. Nice slightly bitter finnish.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tasted as Marks & Spencer Greenwich Red by Meantime. But having had this on tap before I can confirm its the same. Deep red colour. Rich dark toffee and plum aroma. Plenty of roast malt in the flavour but balanced by heavy hopping so quite bitter. Just a bit too astringent and a little thin to be a classic.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
750ml corked bottle (’Greenwich Red Ale’) from Fosse M+S. Pours pale, clear ruby with a flattening cream head. Enticing, musky, red berry-laden aroma with hints of sherbet and cinder toffee; fresh-rubbed oily hop backed with chocolate and digestive maltiness. Crisp, well-bittered berry, flowers and peaches hop flavour balanced attractively with cinder toffee, liquorice and walnut notes. Chorophyll-hoppy on the belch. Tasty: like a bottled Sheps with added US hops, but better.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
[750ml bottle from Marks & Spencers Reading] Red-brown with a moderate cream head. Some tropical fruit in the aroma (mango & peach) which on tasting develops into a berr-like taste. Caramel & treacle develop, with a burnt sugar bitterness coming through. Decent beer, maybe a little thin.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bold hoppiness with gassey tinged nose under a rusty body with feverent carbonation. Big lava pour on the first dust, eventually simmers in the bottle to a more mellow vibe.
Stern metallic kiss to the initial taste, vibrant all angles malt and a neat bite of skin thin hop crunch. Showy midrange with a wee zoom back to a pudding malt sweetness for the finish.
More impressive than I had thought and it would need to be, considering it is shelved alongside bottles of wine for the M&S deal. My Da informs me that these are normally gone by lunchtime any day of the week. Personally I’d prefer a thin bottle of Cabarnet.
