A light malty beer full of the distinctive flavour of citra hops with powerful grapefruit, lychee and gooseberry aromas.

UPDATED: MAR 8, 2014 Pours a hazy golden colour with a good white head which retains and laces well. There is a lovely lemony, citrus hop aroma from this beer. The flavour is biscuit sweetness and lemony hops. This beer is medium sweet and medium bitter in harmony and has a very smooth velvety mouthfeel. An excellent IPA. My first taste of citra hops, this was thoroughly enjoyable.

bottle from M&S Exeter. Golden colour, tall white head. Malty start, lots of intensively fruity hops tune in at once. Lychee and mango (?), bitter-sweet overall character.

Bottle from M&S, St Johns Road, Clapham Junction, London - golden coloured pour with thin white head. Tropical fruity hoppy and malty aroma and taste, grapefruit, peachy, pine needles into the bitter finish.

50 cl bottle. Pours clear and golden yellow. Aroma is pine and toasted malty. Light grapefruity. Bitter, grapefruity and slight citrusy. Smooth fruity and crisp hoppy solid fruity finish.

Light golden color with small head. This beer has a strong cat piss aroma and soapy taste. Not my kind of thing. Citra hop is obvious but not enough intensive. Bitterness is medium and doesn’t lat long in the aftertaste. If it wasn’t for cat piss I might enjoy the drinkabilty and good balance.

Pours a clear pale yellow with an off-white head. The smell is big citrus, grapefruit. The taste is mild grain, grapefruit, citrus ending dry with a touch of bitterness. The body is Light with compact carbonation. Pretty nice.

Golden and lightly gassy. Nice citra aroma, not surprisingly. This was dry and crisp, quite a basic ale but still quite reasonable.

Bottle BBE: 12.15. Well-chilled. Pours a clear, pale amber body with a medium, moderately foamy/creamy off-white head. High-medium intensity aromas of grapefruit, passionfruit, gooseberry, and a little vanilla. A growing, medium vanilla fudge sweetness battles a medium-high bitterness. The body is light-medium, texture is smooth, carbonation slightly below average and the finish bitter. Overall, a delicate nose is overpowered by an in-your-face taste. Not bad, but doesn’t quite balance.

Bottle. Clear golden pour with white head. Aroma is very dull and anonymous. Taste is quite flat with a bit of freshness. Medium carbonation

500 ml bottle bought at M&S in iSquare, Tsim Sha Tsui.

Looks: Clear light golden yellow colour; One quarter finger head with residual soapy white foam which fades in 30 seconds; Excellent sticky lacing and notable small, slow carbonation.

Aroma: Fragrant and sweet Ale malt, with strong lychee, jackfruits, passion fruits, light grapefruit, sugar, floral, honey, and thin grass.

Taste: Close to light sweet fair Ale malt, with strong grapefruit peels, molasses notes, yeast, spices, very strong lime, strong bitter hops and very sharp grass.

Body: Medium body. Very slick palate.

Mouth Feel: fair Ale maltyness in a thick, slightly sluggish body. Citra’s bitterness dominates with strong citrus peels, low sweetness, spices and very limey hops to round. Very good!

Hoppiness: Rich lychee, jackfruits, passion fruits, light grapefruit, floral and honey ion nose. Strong grapefruit peels, strong lime, spices, and sharp grass in taste. Bitterness is very strong for a lasting, very astringent grassy finish.

After Taste: Quite dry. Grassy and limey bitter to mouth.

Comments: I almost want to say this is a Citra bomb, well almost. The lychee-lead aroma is strong but not in your face, yet the simple limey fruit peel hoppiness really gets your attention. Very bitter and close to sparkling, a definite joy to have. I like it!
