COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The crystal malt, Fuggle and Golding hops provide a good foundation for this full bodied beer. It has a gentle rum aroma and a rich, smooth flavour, thanks to the dark unrefined sugar. The addition of Carribean rum adds another degree of subtle complexity.

bought at the Celbridge Marks & Spencer .. . drank the night me and my brother stayed up til 4:30 playing fifa ’13 .. . . deep copper .. medium head .. . lacing is great .. . solid bitterness, mild sweetness .. . hey, hey, let me axe you something .. . a pretty good beer completely lacks any depth, i love the label though .. . .
Stepped on a throwing star with my bare foot this morning.
Sure, it looked like a Lego.
But I’m sticking to the throwing star story....

Golden ale that loses its head fast. Fairly ordinary with a dominant bitter character, but with a sweet nose and a slight spiciness in its flavour, which probably accounts for the name, but there are no obvious rum elements.

Rum? I don’t get it. This is just a typical flat ale. I guess there are 13 in dozen of these when you buy beers from average supermarket in UK. Perhaps the rum was drank by people who made the label, who knows. Advertising and reality does not meet, that’s the problem.

Bottle pours copper brown with good white lasting and lacing head. Aroma is malty and a hint of oak semi sweet malty taste with a touch of hop bitterness to close. I would never have known there was any rum there ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from Mark & Spencer’s. Pours a golden brown colour with a thin beige head. Aroma of toffee, caramel, alcohol and oak. Similar flavours with a little oaky, rum sweetness to finish. Mildly bitter also. Mild carbonation and CO2 prickle with an oily mouth-feel.

500ml Brown bottle, best before the end of Sept 2012: poured into my Abbot Ale glass tankard in Mar 2012. Wadworth 6X with smooth Caribbean Rum according to the rear label. I’d never have guessed there was rum in it, but once the thought is put in your head it tries to find it: no rum in the nose, but I might have picked up hints in the semi-sweet flavours found in the taste. Would love to have had a normal 6X to compare this bottle with: I might even do that in the future. Good amber body, clear and clean, the white head fell away to a wispy covering and collar half way through the tasting, but I did have some Brie and buscuits once I’d decided the smell and taste comments I intended to write, so that might have killed the head somewhat. The nose was malty, the taste simular but with a mini hop bitterness in the finish. This is a pleasant beer and I recommend you try it if given the chance.
