COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The crystal malt, Fuggle and Golding hops provide a good foundation for this full bodied beer. It has a gentle rum aroma and a rich, smooth flavour, thanks to the dark unrefined sugar. The addition of Carribean rum adds another degree of subtle complexity.

(Bottled.). A rum beer sounds seductive , but then you read the label and its not that strong and then you taste it as im doing as i write this stuff and realise this is a malty ale with almost zero Rum vibez. If you can find rum , then your palate is more sophisticated than mine.

500ml Brown bottle, best before the end of Sept 2012: poured into my Abbot Ale glass tankard in Mar 2012. Wadworth 6X with smooth Caribbean Rum according to the rear label. I’d never have guessed there was rum in it, but once the thought is put in your head it tries to find it: no rum in the nose, but I might have picked up hints in the semi-sweet flavours found in the taste. Would love to have had a normal 6X to compare this bottle with: I might even do that in the future. Good amber body, clear and clean, the white head fell away to a wispy covering and collar half way through the tasting, but I did have some Brie and buscuits once I’d decided the smell and taste comments I intended to write, so that might have killed the head somewhat. The nose was malty, the taste simular but with a mini hop bitterness in the finish. This is a pleasant beer and I recommend you try it if given the chance.

Bottle. Clear amber, Off shite thing head. Metallic rum smell. Takes a bit of coaxing to get a nice rum flavour into the beer, and other than the rum the beer itself is a bit bland. Slight bitterness with some malts, caramel sweetness. The rum isn’t refined enough to lift this into a "good" beer - a bit of a letdown.

50 cl bottle, Sheffield, UK. Clear amber colour, aroma of cereal, metal and rum. More metal on the first sip, bright hops and a lingering off finish that doesn’t quite sit right. Think my quick glance at the label made me think ’aged in rum barrels’ rather than the reality of ’rum dumped into beer’.

Bottle from Marks & Spencer. Clear dark orange colour, off-white head. Nose is rum, sewer smells, wood. Flavour is malty, caramel, rum. Dry and metallic finish. Not well.

Hugi (161) - Baden-Württemberg, GERMANY - AUG 17, 2011
UPDATED: AUG 26, 2011 Pours amber with a tiny, unstable head. Strong alcohol/rum-aroma in the finish which makes it a bit unbalanced. Besides that only a flat aroma. A bit of caramel.

Bottled 500ml (BB 12/2011)
Clear copper color, small white head. Bready, caramelly with aroma of rhum. Light to medium-bodied. Nutty, English hoppy with notes of rhum, less than in aroma. Despite of rhum, quite conventional ESB.
