Douberd (1999) - Arnhem, NETHERLANDS - JUN 2, 2014
Bottle 500 ml at home, poured into a big Guinness glass, ABV 4.3% Amber coloured beer, with a tall and thick tan head, good retention, ,edium lacing on the glass in the form of spots. Aroma of caramel, ripe red fruits, weirdly enough some alcohol although it’s just a 4.3% beer. Taste of caramel, red and (less of) dark fruits, a touch of ash and roasted malts, good bitterness on the aftertaste. Medium thin body, carbonation on the low side. Good enough beer.

Appearance: Clear amber/copper with finger thick beige head. Aroma: Light caramel, mineral, raisin note, malty and nutty. Taste: Low/medium sweetness and sourness with low bitterness. Palate: Thin slightly coarse texture, light body, average carbonation, lingering dry bitter, nutty, peppery finish after the initial dried fruit, caramel sweetness. Comments: Very tasty.

500ml Bottle: BBD 06/2014. A Marks and Spencer beer, opened on 3rd March 2014 and poured into my Abbot Ale glass tankard. Bottled Conditioned. No sediment left my bottle, so I got a clear amber body with a good, deep, full, off-white foaming head in my tankard. Nutty, woody, twiggy nose, with a clean malty base in a bleached muslin sack. The taste follows the aroma: woody, earthy and malty, but with a sterile bent (see bleached muslin above). Bitter finish to a strange ’clinical’ flavoured malty brew. Who ever over-saw the bottle cleaning didn’t wash out mine too well because the whole tasting seemed to be overshadowed by some sort of cleansing compound. Anyone else thought it tasted ’clinical’?

Heldere koperen kleur met een goede kraag. Ruikt niet zo sterk. Iets rood fruit, citrus. Smaakt bitter en iets zurig fruit.

500ml bottle from Marks & Spencer, Ayr - clear amber brown, thin off-white head, nutty malty aroma, intermittent lacing, toffee, malty, high carbonation detracts from the flavour, oily texture, bitter finish

500ml bottle shared with mr_h. Light brown, reasonable head. Oaty caramel malt aroma. Grassy toffee malt flavour, bitter aftertaste. A bog standard bitter.

Poured medium amber with a huge, frothy off white head. Aroma of soft floral hops and caramel malt. Medium body, flavour of sweet malt, nuts, light dark chocolate, bitter sweet finish. Simple but effective.
