The Loco Gringo Series — El CuCuy India-Style Black Ale
In Latin American cultures, El Cucuy is an imaginary creature of the dark, similar to the boogeyman, which haunts the minds of children and adults alike. El Cucuy India-style Black Ale features dark roasted notes that sneak up on the subdued caramel malt backbone and the irresistible bitterness creating a harmonious and frighteningly delicious balance. But beware, this beer is dry-hopped providing an intensely vibrant floral and citrusy aroma and at 8.6% abv is not a monster to be carelessly dealt with. Be good or the Cucuy will get you!

22oz. waxed bottle served in a Tank 7 tulip. Pours a deep brown/black with a finger of tan head. Some piney hops and chocolate malt in the aroma. Nice amount of hop bitterness with a long lingering finish of chocolate malt. Drying from the hops and malt. On the thinner side of medium. Easy drinking, solid beer.

i could smell the aroma from where my face was when pouring. crisp fresh citrusy pine. on closer smell some malt comes through an exciting deep hop smell. when it pours it just looks thick. beautiful deep black with tan two finger head. as good as a beer could look especially for this style. it is pitch black.this beer is densely hopped, citrus and piney resinous hops dominate the initial taste and blend with a strong malt that has evident roast and hints of coffee. unexpectedly one of the best black ipa’s i’ve ever had. up there with the best. super aggressive beer that is very well done.

Pours black with a medium tan/mocha head...nice bottom up forming head...great lacing and retention. Aroma has nice hoppiness and some chocolate and burnt wood...maybe the faintest hint of citrus creeping in. Flavor has great charred woody notes and dark chocolate with nice bitterness...faint spicy citrus. Mouthfeel is medium and the finish is roasty and dry with charred woody notes...lingering. awesome! May be my favorite BIPA!

Deep brown decent sized tan head... Big citrus aroma with subdued roast and sweetness... Lively medium full bodied... Grassy green quality initially overpowers any citrus from the aroma... Decent beer but I wish it were a bit roastier...

Enjoyed at the Black Friday Tasting courtesy of swillbur pouring up deep mahogany supporting up a tan like foam head. The aroma offers up pine and grapefruit like hoppiness as well as dark roasted malts and a bit of spicy black strap molasses. The taste is refreshingly good with some dark roasted malts, citrusy grapefruit hops, pine hops and hints of cherry like sweet dark fruity esters. D-Lish Black IPA.

Bomber picked up in Oklahoma City for me by DenverLogan (thanks Logan) poured a clear dark reddish brown nearly black with a lasdting brown head. Aromas of roasted malt, grapefruit, pine and skunk bud. Palate was medium bodied and crisp with a dry finish. Flavors of roasted malt, grapefruit, pine, tangerine and light tropical fruit with a crisp dry bitter lingering roasty citrus finish.

Black in color with a good sized tan head. Lots of pine and floral aromas with a hint of roasted malts. Taste is of pine, oranges, roasted malts, chocolate, with a bitter hop finish.

Dark look, black in color, tan head. The smell is pine, citrus, hops, not as much roast as expected, good hop aroma. The taste is hoppy, somewhat bitter, some roast, pine, and fruits.

Black Friday tasting. Man this was a nice brew! Pours a dark brown color. Tan head. The wonderful mix of hops and dark malt is awesome in this brew. Alcohol is well hidden. Bravo!
