The Loco Gringo Series ó El CuCuy India-Style Black Ale
In Latin American cultures, El Cucuy is an imaginary creature of the dark, similar to the boogeyman, which haunts the minds of children and adults alike. El Cucuy India-style Black Ale features dark roasted notes that sneak up on the subdued caramel malt backbone and the irresistible bitterness creating a harmonious and frighteningly delicious balance. But beware, this beer is dry-hopped providing an intensely vibrant floral and citrusy aroma and at 8.6% abv is not a monster to be carelessly dealt with. Be good or the Cucuy will get you!

This was well done. Malty sweetness and hops that leave you guessing about what is to come. Very dark, in fact, I couldnít see through it with a quickly dissipating head. A big mix of flavor with sticky sweetness and burnt malts, some caramel essence and big hops throughout. Syrupy palate. Nicely done.

From a recent trade. Noted of roasted malt and notes of fruity hops. The two do not always meet. This one is one of those clashing competing kind of black IPAs that gives them a bad name. Initial aroma too is super medicinal. Just not working for me.

Bottle. Dark pour with tan head. Herbal, earthy and grassy hoppy aromas, light roasted tones. Light malty flavors, some hints of herbal and chocolate tones.

12 oz pour from room temperature bottle into Spiegelau IPA glass. Pours opaque and inky black with a head super-fluffy light brown head. The head is ridiculous-- super long lasting. Nose is caramel, toffee, and orange. Mouthfeel is moderate-to-creamy. Taste is great. Lots of malts with toffee, caramel, and some biscuit. Hops on top with some piney and some citrus notes. Itís ones aged a few months, so I think the hops have mellowed considerable. Itís very balanced and very tasty. Iím impressed.

22oz Bomber. Tasted on 10/24/14. Beer from Moore Liquor. Pours to deep black color with a light tan head. Aroma has a lot of hops with an earthy more to it. The taste was great with the hops upfront & a great malt balance that worked well. Overall a very nice black IPA. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
