* McNELLIE’S PUB ALE Inspired by the house ales found in the pubs of Great Britain and Ireland, McNellie’s Pub Ale is a traditional ale brewed in the style of a Best Bitter. Various maltings of two-row barley are joined with American Glacier hops to give this beer its color, complexity, and a bit of a New World twist. The Old World character present in this ale is largely influenced by its yeast, which originates in the port city of Hull, East Yorkshire, England.

12 oz bottle. (Midtown Liquor) Tulsa, OK.
Cloudy dark red colour with a tiny tan head. Floral hops, sweetness, mild bitterness and malt in the aroma. The flavour is bitter hoppy. Dark hops, strong bitterness and sweet maltiness. Strongly hopped ESB if not IPA... I guess...

Sampled from the tap at rePUBlic. Pours a clear amber orange with a near white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a combination of nuttiness and a bit of smoke and backing earthy grains. Flavor has notes of earthy grains and nuts but finish has a bit of a monkey note. A bit odd.

Draft at McNellie’s in downtown Tulsa. Pours a cloudy amber color with a frothy off-white head that laces the glass. Aroma of biscuity malts, earthy hops, yeast, mild spices, and a little toffee. Flavor of biscuity malts, leafy hops, mild spices, and toasted sugar. Medium-bodied, with a malty mouthfeel and soft carbonation. I initially thought this might be called an ’Irish ale’- it isn’t really what I’ve experienced before in a bitter, but that could also be my lack of experience with the style.
