30th March 2011 JDW Fest. Clear amber beer, little white head. Dryish palate. Unusual flavour! There is a milky nutty sweetness going on that reminds me of spirit made in Europe somewhere - can’t put my finger on it! A little floral hop as well before the dry finish. Funky flavour, overdry palate.
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 imdownthepub (8470) - Banbury, Oxfordshire, ENGLAND - APR 14, 2011
Cask conditioned at a Wetherspoons. Amber with whisp of head. Very sweet and softly fruity, overripe plums came to mind. The body was lifeless, and this had only just gone on, flat, bready. Not particularly good.

[Cask at Monk’s Retreat (JDW), Reading] Amber, slight white head. Sweet caramel at first. Soft, comforting mouthfeel in the middle, and a finish like chewing on a lump of wood. Not a lot to this one, but pleasant enough.

The Felix, Nuneaton. Brassy with a thin, draping slick . Mushy cherry skin and rotting hay aroma. Just a booze-sodden, park bench mush of cherry and warm tupperware. Late cream and vanilla. Foreign muck made worse by Marston’s; struggled with half a third.

Hand pulled at the Briar Rose, Birmingham. Amberish, with a very sticky and frothy white roof, which laced and persisted throughout. Plain English hops taste, with paper and some gravy on the finish, which is a bit sour with some apple. It’s OK.

Cask at the Claude de Vall (JDW), Camberley. Hazy amber with a ring of white head that laces the glass nicely; grainy aroma with a touch of apple; the taste is predominantly of caramel malts, but there are also some sour apple notes; before a fruity finish with some pleasantly spicy hops. Very drinkable.
