Commercial Description:
Bottled - Pasteurised, 500ml.

With it’s pale appearance, strong hoppy taste and higher alcoholic strength Marston’s Old Empire comprises all the genuine characteristics of a true India Pale Ale, which were necessary to last the 3 month long journey from Burton to Bombay.
Old Empire is brewed using Optic malt, a subtle and paler grain that will allow other flavours to come through on the palate. Goldings and Fuggles hops are added to this brew, which is then late hopped with the American Cascade variety for extra hop strength.

50 cl. clear bottle. Coppery orange colour, small head that doesn’t hold too long. Smell is hoppy, sulphurous, a bit skunky, oranges. Rough in the tongue, but saomewhat silky. Taste is citrus, butter, biscuit, some caramel, marzipan, vanilla. Nice one.

Golden with a nice head. It’s a nice dry IPA with notes of hops, a bit of malt, fruit and flower. The bitterness is nice and lasts well in the finish, but IMO it should be more pronounced.

My bottle shared with HogTownHarry and tupalev. Pours a clear golden-orange with an average size lasting white head. Aroma of grassy U.K. hops, also biscuity, and with sweet malt and faint fruit. Flavour of sweet malt, spices and a good amount of grassy hops. Medium bodied. This was a pleasant surprise, I found it quite easy to drink and I could have easily had several of these.

Bottle. Amber with a decent white head. Aroma of dusty, tired hops. Flavours of malt sweetness with a hoppy finish. Ok.

Bottle shared with Blankboy and Hogtown Harry, Paul’s bottle from England. At the first crack of this clear bottle, all we could smell is skunk. But, as it aired out, it got better - very strong hops overcame the skunk.. Almost. Taste is very good - refreshing hops, light amber malt, some syrupy sweetness - right on style. Bad start but great finish, this was pretty sold, stupid clear bottle aside.

Not going to waste too much time on this one, other than to say it’s just another decidedly average brew from Marstons
