3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Date tasted: July 7, 2013... Glassware: Wychwood Hopbgoblin tumbler... Occasion: celebrating a lazy Sunday’s end....Appearance: nice pale copper body that is clear and softly bubbling; cloudy white head that laces and quickly dissipates... Aroma: bready malts assert dominance--such an English treat--with some buttery notes... Palate: medium-bodied, smooth and buttery; some heat on the exhale,, despite the modest ABV.. Taste: extremely soft hints of toffee and hops; powerful display of malt high on the tongue; formidable... Overall: a curiosity purchase, using a gift card for a slew of brews including this one; I know Marston is renown for its bitter, and thought the IPA would carry the flag; malty , yes, and a quality sipper with a slightly smoked, buttery, definitively scotch finish....still, tough to place among the more formidable IPAs from either side of the pond....

UPDATED: OCT 25, 2013 #24 - Lovely label... Bottle from local shop. Hay like aroma, nice and well balanced. Rather sweet with fruity hay aftertaste. Updated from old review.

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours with a solid, white, thick head, which lasts for fairly long. Appearance is clear, color is copper. Mildly hoppy aroma. Surprisingly subtle but hoppy and slightly honey-like taste. Tangy aftertaste.

2.7 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Golden pale with huge white top that doesn’t last for long. Almost non existing aroma or is it my nose? Little sweet, but had enough bitterness in aftertaste.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle. Poured golden straw, very carbonated looking. Skunky aroma initially, then a little malty and hoppy. It's tastes ok, slightly malty and hoppy with a touch of honey. Not great.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle from Sainsburys. I’d completely forgotten I’d had this from the cask previously. Clear bottle. Light golden colour. Some of that typical Marstons sulphury initial aroma. Initially malty. Thought it was a bit bland but as progressed through the bottle got to grips with a definite but restrained bitter hop character. Old school English IPA, tasty.
