COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle: Pasteurised.
Old Empire is brewed using Optic malt, a subtle and paler grain that will allow other flavours to come through on the palate. Goldings and Fuggles hops are added to this brew, which is then late hopped with the American Cascade variety for extra hop strength.

It came from a 500ml clear bottle, it pours a a golden color with a pillowy 1 finger white head that lingers around. It has some small spots of lacing. The aroma is mostly dominated by grassy notes and a little skunk. The flavor, I can say isn’t going to get a fair shake. I am not sure if it got skunked, it is very grassy for an IPA . I get some toasted carmel but it also comes with a bunch of grass and grains, it is somewhat similar to an euro lager. It finishes with a leafy bitterness that lingers around. I can’t really understand how they are calling this an IPA, I would say a decent version of a pale ale.

As Marstons Old Empire India Pale Ale. 500ml bottle, Maruhn bb08/2015. Diluted supermarket brand orange marmelade drifts on a dulled body and pleasantly light biscuit malts. Lack of any real hop bouquet besides a hint at Lady Grey. Quick finish. A bit course, but still managed to enjoy this as an easy sucker for anything ESB/UK-style IPA.

Bottle from friend for Xmas. Aroma, not much more than biscuit and possible honey notes. On the taste it’s initial biscuit malts, then honey flavours followed by a faint touch of orange, and then a light grapefruit finish. I say light, it’s that there’s not an awful amount of flavour in the grapefruit, but you can taste the aftermath if you catch my drift. Leaves a waxy coating in the mouth. Wouldn’t bother with this again.

Bottle 0.50l. Clear deep golden color with medium frothy off-white head, good lacing and soft carbonation in palate. Aroma of mild caramel, grassy hops, citrus and a bit dusty. Taste starts with light sweet toasted and grainy malt, follows by herbal and citric acidity, while finish is moderate bitter. Medium body, slick texture and average carbonation in palate. Pretty average brew...

500 mL bottle. Light floral aroma, on a dry, bitter ale. Its not bad stuff to drink, but hardly one to rave about.

R4N5H (139) - SINGAPORE - DEC 9, 2014
UPDATED: DEC 10, 2014 50cl bottle purchased at the London, Boat Quay, Singapore. Cloudy brown orange colour with a small white head which quickly disappeared. Malty aroma with some hops. Medium body and lightly carbonated. Taste of fruit, caramel, malt and hops. Understated but robust, and definitely in the English style.
