Old Empire is brewed using Optic malt, a subtle and paler grain that will allow other flavours to come through on the palate. Goldings and Fuggles hops are added to this brew, which is then late hopped with the American Cascade variety for extra hop strength.

Not much aroma. Your Midlandís murkiness is present - machinery, bottling plant, rain on pavements - but not in an exciting way. Bitter finish. Iíd neither seek it out or turn it down.

0.5 bottle. Pours golden/amber color with medium, mostly diminishing white head. Aroma of malt, hops with a touch of fruitiness, biscuits. Flavor is light medium sweet, medium to heavy bitter, somewhat biscuity. Smooth and drinkable. Medium long roasted finish. Medium body, soft carbonation. The only thing I didnít got, is why did they print the IPA word on the cover?

Bottle, 550 ml,bought in London. Marketed as an ipa, this is, quite rightly, more of a bitter than anything else: smooth, clear and with a distinct taste of alcohol. Extremely little fruit, scant hops. Not my cup of tea but fair enough, I guess.

Aroma; fruity rounded herbal malt character, dark fruity leafy hops to the nose, maybe a small caramel note, all in all a very straight clean aroma. Look; off white modest foam, clear deep golden body. Taste; hops, crystal barley malts, herbs, grapefruit peel, "crystal grain" - leading to a fruity hoppy finish. Feel; clean, easy, natural co2. Overall; quality IPA, a true british one, very british. [50cl.btl 5.7% BB.28APR17 #B6088]

Bottle, 500ml. *** Colour: Deep hazy amber, with a small, fluffy off-white head. *** Nose: Mildly sweetish aroma of orchard fruit, biscuit malt and a hint of floral hops. Mouthfeel: Medium body, hardly watery. Soft carbonation. *** Taste: Nice balance of bitter, flowery hops and softer malts at the start, some generic fruitness, too. Maltier in the middle, but still bitter, with some lemon. Finish is medium bitter, again hops & malt in equal balance. Lasting, mediumb bitter hop aftertaste. *** Impressions: Better than I expected after the fairly mediocre reviews I read on Ratebeer - but they shouldnít have printed the "IPA" this big - itís not an IPA. Instead, expect a solid best bitter, very well balanced, just a tad thin for the ABV, but highly drinkable. Good mainstream ale.

Lost my sense of smell in my 20ís after cauterisation procedures so aroma is not on my radar. Tastes pretty good though so palate over nose for me. Very drinkable - my current goto. My preferences have always been bitter and strong. This fits the bill. Consistent. I also believe in the glass bottle as a safe storage mechanism for humans.

Nothing special but good aftertaste and overall drinkabilty particularly considering the high alcoholic content

Weak offwhite head, clear. Hardly any aroma, some fruits, some malt. Tastes a bit better - mildly bitter, some caramel and malt. Mild bitter finish. Nice on the palate - medium body, fairly drinkable. Sort of a "best bitter" with weak aroma, not an IPA. Drinkable, but I was expecting an IPA.

Light amber clear beer, quite high carbonation and frothy head. Light, fairly generic hoppy nose with a hint of lemon. Uninspired taste, light, hints of biscuit, caramel, grass, some bitterness in the finish. Inoffensive..
