3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from Humpers, Staple Hill. dark, ruddy brown with a short-lived, off-white head. Sweet, caramel, red berry fruit and candy sugar aroma. Flavour was a bit sugary, with a pasteurised edge some fruit fruit and warming alcohol finish. A bit industrial but still a good winter warmer.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
17 cl bottle vintage 1977 @ vPBF. Thanks Pat!
Aroma has some raisins, cardboard and some moldy cellar. Flavour has some metal, moldy cellar, hints of raisins and sugar. Feels like most of the flavour bouquet is gone.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Beatiful dark ruby beer, lots of malt, fruitiness, quite sweet, and I would have preferred more bitterness to balance this. But itís not bad at all.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Sweet, oaty start, dry-ish hoppyness towards the finish, some light peaty and smokey flavours, and a bit of oak, some mollasses in there aswell, not real elegant, but not too bad either. Not overly complex, but it occasionally surprised me on the odd sip.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from one of the supermarkets. Poured a clear dark brown with a thin frothy tan head. The aroma is big roast and a hint of yeast with some burnt treacle. The flavour is medium bitter with a smooth liqourice, slightly alcoholic palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation and a long bitter finish. This was a lovely heart-warming beer and perhaps one of the best Iíve ever had from Marstons.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Not as famous nor as well balanced as Old Peculiar or Old Speckled Hen, this is none the less a decent quality old style beer.
