2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20
Pours a very deep brown, perhaps its black, with a thin tan head. Aroma doesn’t really jump out at you. I get toffee, a little coffee, a little bit of licorice, and raisin. The taste at first impression really has a metallic quality to it. Moving on, it has a roasted maltiness overall, bready, mild toffee, and slight qualities of licorice. Aftertaste is very bready. Light in body, with a very thin texture, and lacking in carbonation. I am not a fan of this one.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Appearance: near opaque black with brown highlights, one finger of light beige head settling fairly rapidly to a thin cap, minimal lacing. (3/5) Aroma: coffee, toasted bready malt, caramel. (6/10) Taste: moderate sweet, moderate bitter. (6/10) Palate: medium body, moderate-high carbonation, off-dry light bitter finish. (3/5)
Fairly light, somewhat sweet, and easy-drinking. Pretty simple and straightforward, albeit with a somewhat higher than normal carbonation for the style. As far as I can tell, it’s not actually an “oyster stout” (in the sense that it contains oysters or shells), but is intended to accompany oysters? Personally, I prefer a nice IPA with oysters, but hey, whatever floats your (oyster) boat… (12/20)

Optisch prima, brauner Schokoschaum, sehr dicht, bräunlich. In der Nase irgendwie staubig, Wein (?). Um Trunk sehr leicht, fast schon wässrig. Erst im Abgang ein Hauch Röstmalz. Zu wenig Charakter, sorry.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
500ml bb06/2016, Maruhn. An oyster stout with no indicated use of oysters (nor their shells for filtering), pasteurised to accompany rather than contain seafood. Overall watery, sessionable and probably quite historical approximation of the style, offering some toffee (thin, sulphurs), coffee roast and gentle ("Burton"ised?) mineral brine for a dry, "smooth, easy" if somewhat spineless tipple.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Excellent light yet complex stout. I don’t normally go for stout on the case on its richness and decadence which is only suitable on certain occasions (I’d rather a good Landbier on a Friday night!). However this was purchased for me from craftbeer.de.
Nose is of coffee mixed with just over toasted bread. The pour isn’t as exciting as a nitrogen infused can, and settles with a small off white head but with good lacing.
Taste is rich, pleasing coffee and toffee...not too bitter not too sweet. Also a nice pleasant liquorice sourness which I enjoy to counteract the maltiness without reverting to hops. This all leaves a satisfying, warm rich dark taste in the mouth which is excellently balanced. All tastebuds are tingling in equal measure.
As the bottle states: this is smooth, easy drinking. But also incredibly satisfying. Would love to try it draft!

4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: DEC 12, 2015 This beer is phenomenal. To me this taste like a more refined stout. Not as creamy as I would have liked due to the lack of the nitrogen as I was expecting. But still, this beer is great. Rich taste with hints of woodiness and coffee. On the back end you get a richness and a type of bready, caramel taste. A very pleasant beer. I’d imagine this would go well with lots of foods. I drank this by itself as it was my first time trying it. And was not disappointed. At $4.70 a bottle on base. It’s not a bad beer to grab a couple of for a night in. Apv is not super high by any means but seems to be just right for the thick mouth feel and aromas you’ll get drinking this brew. A great beer.

Some toast. Fairly smooth. Not as aggressive as some other ones i’ve had but hey that also isn’t a bad thing.
