UPDATED: DEC 30, 2013 Bottle Spar Tops Hermanus. Pours brown, black, frothy with average carbonation and head. Aroma of bovril, marmite, molasses and malt. Taste is umami with slight sweet and bitter. Lacking in body. Very drinkable.

Bottle at Borrowdale Youth Hostel. Black with a thick beige head. Too fizzy. Fruity with plenty of chocolate. Sweet. Nice pudding beer but the finish is rather short.

Pours dark brown with a beige head. Aroma and flavour are roasted malts,  coffee and chocolate. Lighter body than expected and a bit oily. Didn’t know what to expect from this beer. In truth, I was worried it was going to taste fishy, but it’s not bad at all.

Pours black with medium beige head. Aroma is light, raisins, light caramel, old hay, some toast. Taste is fruity, creamy, sweetness, brown sugar, syrup, watery. Light and artificially sweet. Not for me.

Pours brown-black color, similar to coke. Small light brown head. Good lacing. Usual stout smell, with iron, molasses and fig notes (kind of minerally, though). Aromas of chocolate, mild coffee, roasted barley and cola syrup with smokey finish. Slight smokey aftertaste. I must say, one of the most intriguing beers I’ve had - especially, when talking about stout types. Interesting sweet and bitter taste with rich maltiness. I agree with its quote - "smooth, easy drinking"

Bottle. Dark brown, nearly black pour with a beige head, some retention. Aroma is fairly mild but mostly as expected - some chocolate and dark fruits, not particularly roasty, a little creamy. Taste is light-bodied but balanced, some chocolate and slight roasty notes, hints of dark fruit, very easy-drinking.
